Chapter 314

Odalys walked into the wilderness, picked two flowers, strung them together with red string, and fashioned a small talisman. When Lee received it from Odalys, Freya had a hunch.

“People who handle cases have a lot of divine energy, but they're often in contact with the dead and corpses. This exposes them to wicked energy, which slowly drains their divine energy, sometimes resulting in bad luck,” Odalys explained softly.

Selah’s eyes widened. “Odalys, did he ask you to join the investigation? Are you going?” she asked excitedly. Joining the system was highly desirable in this country; some even relentlessly studied for the exams.

“I’m not that capable,” Odalys said with a soft laugh.

Selah and Freya tilted their heads, scrutinizing Odalys.

“Stop looking! What if you fall in love with me?” Odalys teased, meeting their gazes.

Selah immediately pounced. “If you’re willing, I’m okay with that!” she declared, nodding eagerly. Before she finished, Freya intervened, grabbing Selah’s neck and pulling her away. She positioned herself between them, clearly wary of Selah's intentions.

“I’m warning you,” Freya said, “she belongs to someone else, so don’t even think about it.” She considered Odalys Percival’s woman and would defend her fiercely.

“How come you can and I can’t?” Selah retorted.

Their playful bickering escalated, culminating in them pressed together, vying for Odalys’ attention. Odalys found their behavior speechless.

In the passenger seat, Francis remained silent. That night, his work overlapped with a scene of his manager being tied up. Odalys leaned forward and patted his shoulder. He was startled.

“Odalys?” Francis whipped his head around, cold sweat beading on his forehead as he met her clear almond eyes. She offered him a flower. “If you can’t sleep, try putting this under your pillow tonight.” Francis, flustered, gratefully accepted the flower.

Much had happened recently. Though he could maintain his composure around them, he hadn't fully processed everything. Odalys leaned forward again, planting a thought in his mind.

“Focus on the curse worm. If it has no effect on you, the curse will backfire on her. What will happen to Edie?” He seemed interested, as the curse worm was legendary.

Chapter 314 (Continued)

Now that they had seen it, he was curious to learn more.

Odalys explained softly, “When the curse worm dies, the mother worm will react with excruciating pain, though it won't kill her. The mother worm will go crazy, merging with the host's flesh and blood. It will burrow into the heart through the blood vessels, churning the internal organs. That’s the price of killing the curse worm. Of course, if I hadn’t killed it, that pain would have been hers.”

Freya’s eyes shone with admiration. “Odalys, you know so much! I can’t imagine how happy your husband will be,” Freya said, her eyes bright with excitement. She knew Odalys was married to the powerful and protective Percival.

“Don’t you all already have me? We’ve slept in the same bed,” Odalys chuckled softly, teasing them.

The atmosphere in the car relaxed instantly. Francis’s displeasure seemed to dissipate.

The group’s mood remained unaffected by the evening's events. After Stellan drove them back, he stayed in the guest room. Odalys’ apartment had four rooms, enough for everyone.

“Odalys, are you going home tonight?” Freya asked softly.

Before Odalys could answer, her phone vibrated. Freya saw Percival’s name.

“You should go! Don’t keep him waiting,” Freya urged.

“Okay, I’ll go then. See you at the studio tomorrow,” Odalys said.

Freya opened the door for her. Watching Odalys leave, she whispered, “Percival is a lucky man.” She laughed, picturing Percival waiting downstairs.

As Odalys went downstairs, she saw Percival’s tall figure standing by a black SUV, talking on his phone. Upon seeing her, he turned. As she approached him, it felt like she had found her light again.

“I understand. Keep an eye on it?” Percival said hoarsely.

He hung up, opened the car door for her, and explained, “Callum’s been watching the people in the shadows. Ever since Edie planted the curse worm, they’ve been lurking. But after you exposed her affair with Henry, they quieted down. They might have an internal plan against you, triggered by anything happening to Edie. They didn’t expect you to be unharmed. The hospital couldn’t find anything wrong, but the curse seemed to have taken effect. Their restless activity has ceased. It seems the plan is canceled. I’ve asked Callum to keep watching.”

Odalys fastened her seatbelt. “How do you know Edie’s situation is caused by the curse?” she asked quietly.

Percival circled the car, got in, started the engine, and said, “Orson’s been observing the hospital situation. He’s compiling a list of everyone treated or medicated, checking if their illnesses are related to the curse.”
