Chapter 385

“He can’t easily get his hands on this thing. Even if he does, it might be destroyed. The only way he can truly claim it is by taking over the Stewart family and becoming one of them,” Odalys revealed, speculating. “All it would take is eliminating the Stewarts; things would be much simpler, without all this complex maneuvering.”

“Rich people tend to think in straightforward terms, acting without hesitation,” she continued. “But those pulling the strings have been working on this for a long time. They must have been planning for quite a while.”

“Our assumptions are the same,” Percival said in a low, serious tone. His eyes gleamed with admiration as he looked at Odalys. He swallowed hard, his broad hand tightening into a fist, trying to suppress his joy.

At that moment, he realized how perfectly aligned his thoughts were with Odalys. Their minds and ideas were almost in perfect harmony.

Odalys continued, “So, everything—from her scheming to get into your father’s bed, to her pregnancy and marriage into the Stewart family—was planned from the start. It wasn’t an accident. Your father’s death, however, probably was. I suspect he discovered something that threw them off. They acted recklessly, leading to his death, and halting their plan.”

“Otherwise, with your grandfather’s sharp instincts, he definitely would have noticed something. Or perhaps he already realized there was a problem but pretended not to know, to protect you,” Odalys said softly. “Evander never said anything, but he was clever. Anyone who could survive the battlefield and take control of the entire Stewart family possesses great wisdom.”

“Yes,” Percival replied hoarsely.

The two stood gazing at each other in silence. Time seemed to freeze.

Odalys looked at Percival, a master strategist. She noticed the calmness in his eyes. She suddenly felt parched and quickly raised her hand.

“It’s getting warm. I’ll head back to the company,” she said, almost as if escaping. She quickly walked toward the company, Percival following closely behind. He trailed her to the entrance but didn’t go inside. Callum approached quickly, lowering his voice to speak to Percival, whose gaze darkened slightly.

“Hi, Mr. Stewart,” Callum said.

“Got it. Don’t tell her about this just yet,” Percival replied.

Callum nodded, turning and heading to the car with the keys.

Percival stood outside for a while, then called inside, “Odalys, I have something I need to take care of. I’ll come by to pick you up later tonight.”

Odalys didn’t reply, but Percival knew she had heard him. He hurried to his car. As the Maybach made a U-turn and drove away, Odalys stepped out of the building. She said nothing, simply watching his car disappear.

“He likes you,” Evander said, holding a coffee cup, following behind her.

Odalys didn’t deny it, but she didn’t respond. Feelings were strange, elusive—something one couldn’t see or touch, yet one could still feel them undeniably.

“The shackles binding him will soon disappear,” Odalys suddenly spoke. She had noticed the invisible connection between Percival and Edie, a bond that existed only between family members. But that bond had been growing weaker, almost transparent. With just a little force, it could snap.

“He’ll have to face it sooner or later,” Evander said meaningfully. Percival’s choices would determine the fate of the Stewart family. Anyone who could take action against their own mother was ruthless. Percival had always remained neutral, waiting to see if Edie would back off. But Edie’s arrogance had crossed the line.

“Why did you choose me back then?” Odalys suddenly asked, her eyes full of curiosity. The Stewart family was a top-tier family, and many women likely aspired to be Percival’s wife. Yet, Evander had specifically chosen the daughter of the Bennett family. Before time travel, Percival had often wondered why.

Evander began, “When Percival was young, he had an accident and was saved by a great master. The master said that if something were to happen to him in the future, the one who could break the situation would be the daughter of the Bennett family. I didn’t pay much attention to it back then, but when Percival was poisoned by a strange toxin that no one could cure, not even the Lark family, and when he was given a death notice, I remembered what the master had said.”

“Though forcing you into marriage isn’t fair. I just wanted to give it a try. The Stewart family doesn’t lack wealth or power. I kept thinking that if you were to suffer, the Stewart family would compensate you financially,” Evander admitted openly.

Odalys furrowed her brow, catching a crucial detail. “A great master?” Earlier, Percival had mentioned something about her entering his consciousness, seeing his time travel memories. Back then, Percival had thrown caution to the wind, driving straight into the Bennett Group, even holding onto her as she was dying. What exactly happened afterward, Odalys didn’t know, but she sensed everything seemed connected to the great master Evander had spoken of. Who is this great master? How can they predict the future? she thought.

“Yes, it was a great master, but I don’t know their name. All they told me was that Percival would face a trial in his life. If he could endure it, he would live; if not, he would die. If Percival dies, the Stewart family will definitely fall,” he continued, looking at Odalys with piercing eyes, while she furrowed her brow even tighter.

“Things will sort themselves out. You don’t need to worry too much. Often, not everything has to fall on your shoulders,” Evander said with concern. He knew Odalys was very responsible and would always lend a hand. But he had a vague feeling that this was a huge trap, aimed at the Stewart family, and might even involve other prestigious families. This was a silent storm brewing, and it would cost lives, not just those of the Stewarts.

“Okay,” Odalys replied calmly.

Evander handed her the freshly brewed coffee, and she took the cup, sipping it lightly.

“Mr. Stewart, I’m stepping out for a bit. If you need something, you don’t have to wait for me here. Just lock the door,” Odalys said. She had given Evander the company’s front door key, ensuring he could come in to pray when she wasn’t around. It was curious. The more people came to pray, the more Odalys felt a surge of energy within her. Even though her first task of the day was always work, she never felt tired after a full day. She couldn’t shake the feeling that her newfound strength was somehow connected to the act of praying. Recently, more and more people had been coming to pray, and she could sense her energy levels soaring. It was remarkable.

In the past, when she had prayed, she never felt the overwhelming power she did now.

“Alright, you go ahead. I’ll stay here a while longer and then leave,” Evander nodded slightly.
