Chapter 66
Perswal sat in the back seat of the car. He turned his head and glanced at Henry. His deep black eyes emitted a chill that made Henry shiver.
“Henry,” Sophia began, but hesitated.
Henry glared at the dented car. Enraged, he slammed the steering wheel and shouted at Sophia, “Shut up! How much more trouble do you want?”
“It must be Odalys. She must have hired someone to hit us,” Sophia whispered, her confidence waning with each word. Henry’s murderous gaze frightened her; she shrank her shoulders involuntarily.
“You know the Porsche warned us just now? If we chase it again, we’ll die,” she said.
Henry responded, “This person must be from the Stewart family. We can’t afford to offend Odalys anymore. Don't provoke her; even if you’re dissatisfied, hold it in. Otherwise, we’ll all be killed.” He'd never been so afraid. That man was clearly no ordinary person.
Henry thought, Who is that person? They knew we were following Odalys and rammed us. It was revenge, but also a warning. He realized the Bennett family was in serious trouble. He dared not think further.
“Henry,” Sophia said, looking at him in disbelief, then at the passenger door. Lingering fear warred with a deepening resolve in her eyes.
Henry started the car. The impact had deformed it, but the engine was fine. He drove the damaged vehicle away.
Not far away, Odalys watched, stunned as Henry tried to catch up, only to be hit by Percival's car. She coughed softly. Her phone rang; a text message read: “[It’s okay. I am here.]” Only Percival would be so arrogant.
Odalys's mood improved, picturing Sophia and Henry's frantic state. Arriving at a nearly empty café, she headed to a window seat. A man slid a document bag across the table.
“A cup of Blue Mountain coffee, please,” Odalys said quickly to the approaching waiter.
“Okay,” the waiter replied.
The coffee arrived quickly. She sipped it while reading the documents. The man waited silently until she finished. “This is all I could find out…” he said.
“In other words, you found no information on Sophia before the Bennett family adopted her?” Odalys asked quietly.
The man nodded, incredulous. “Normally, we find something, but her background is blank.”
“Someone deliberately erased her information. There’s an unspeakable secret behind her,” Odalys murmured.
“The Bennett family’s adoption procedures were standard. We also found no evidence of Sophia contacting anyone mysteriously in the past years.”
“This is mysterious. Do you want to continue investigating?” he asked quietly.
Odalys stowed the documents in her bag. “Keep an eye on the Bennett family. I’ll pay you as usual,” she said, transferring 30,000 dollars via her phone. The man left immediately after receiving the payment.
Odalys had secretly investigated Sophia after marrying into the Stewart family. The results, though swift, were expected.
“Sophia, you’re truly mysterious,” Odalys said coldly. The Bennett family’s decision to abandon their own daughter and adopt Sophia was intriguing. She wondered what Sophia had done to earn their commitment. Calculations revealed Sophia's birthdate was fabricated.
“Interesting,” Odalys said coldly. Sophia's facial structure also seemed abnormal, possibly due to extensive plastic surgery from a young age. She had likely undergone continuous procedures, altering her appearance drastically. Odalys rubbed her temples.
Thinking of Sophia’s jealous rage, Odalys smirked. After finishing her coffee, she paid and left.
In her car, a WhatsApp message popped up. Percival had transferred money. She saw 15 million dollars. He sent another message: “[Is it enough!]”
Odalys replied, “[It will do.]”
Another message: “[Are you going home for dinner tonight!]”
She replied, “[Yes]”, threw her phone on the passenger seat, and drove to the hospital, parking nearby. Inside, she noticed a ward filled with an unnatural black haze. She chuckled softly. Hannah was in for it.
She went to Hannah's ward. Sophia's sobs were audible. “Mom, Odalys wants to kill Henry and me! She had someone crash into our car. If they'd kept hitting us, we'd be dead! How did she become like this?”
Hannah's face paled; anger flashed in her eyes. Trembling on her hospital bed, she gritted her teeth. “How could she do this? I’m her mother! She dared to kill her own brother! If I’d known, I would have killed her then!” Her fists clenched. Henry sat silently, smoking.
“Also, the whole internet is talking about Sophia and Finnian going to a hotel together,” Atlas said, disbelief evident.
