Chapter 70

Odalys' thoughts were pulled back, and the scene ended. She stood up and walked out. Opening the door, she saw Percival standing outside.

Seeing the cold sweat on her forehead, Percival asked hoarsely, "Are you alright? I heard your cry and came to check."

Odalys was stunned, recalling the force that had thrown her. She shook her head and whispered, "I'm fine."

Percival's lips moved, but he said nothing.

"By the way, has your uncle ever had children?" Odalys asked curiously.

He shook his head. "My uncle is sterile, as far as I know. He's never married or had children. That's why my mother took care of him."

"That's not right. Show me his photo again," Odalys said quietly.

Percival returned to his study, retrieved the photo, and showed it to Odalys.

She narrowed her almond-shaped eyes. "Your uncle doesn't look infertile. From his features, I'd say he could have at least three children."

Looking up at Percival, she asked softly, "Are you sure he's never had a child?"

Percival explained, "My father disliked him, so I rarely interacted with my uncle. After my father's accident, my grandfather forbade contact. We haven't seen each other for years. I started investigating him two years ago, but he seems to have vanished. I can't find any trace of him."

"A person can't just disappear. My mother helped him for years; his family should be well-off. A businessman wouldn't leave no trace. Yet, he's gone," he said. This is why he hadn't connected the poisoning to his uncle.

"If he has a wife and children, he likely hid them from my mother," Percival analyzed quietly, his belief in Odalys evident.

Odalys took the photo and sat on the sofa. "Sophia's past is as mysterious as your uncle's! Her birthdate is fake. I just went to the hospital... I took a hair sample and found a force protecting her past; I broke through it just now. Guess what I saw?"

Percival slowly sat opposite her. After a moment, he said hoarsely, "If her birthdate is fake, is her face fake, too?"

"That's right. When she was young, her face was badly mutilated; her bones may have been altered. That's why I couldn't do a fortune telling. I only know her luck is bad," Odalys said quietly.

Percival's fingertips tightened. "You suspect my uncle is connected to Sophia?" he asked hoarsely.

Odalys chuckled, admiring Percival's intelligence. Her mood improved greatly.

"That's my thought! But I sense your uncle isn't dead. From the photo, he doesn't seem short-lived. When I'm free, I'll help you find him, but not now," Odalys said.

She stood and walked to the window. Dusk had arrived; the setting sun painted the sky red.

Percival asked, confused, "The Bennett family has financial ties to my uncle, and he knew my affairs intimately. He relayed news of my impending death to them; that's why they wanted you to marry me."

"How did the Bennett family connect with my uncle? What would they gain from your marriage?"

Odalys laughed. "If I marry you and sacrifice myself, they protect Sophia. The Bennetts treat her like a treasure; they wouldn't let her marry a dying man! They also didn't know if the Stewart family wanted your wife to die with you. After sacrificing me, no one would challenge Sophia's position. I'm also puzzled. Why do the Bennetts hate me so much? I'm one of them." Even if they disliked her, she doubted they'd kill their biological daughter for no reason.

"I'll get someone to investigate," Percival said hoarsely.

Odalys shook her head. They stood side-by-side, bathed in the setting sun.

"No need. I'm not interested in the Bennett family. Besides, marrying you and leaving them might not be a bad choice," Odalys said.

She was open-minded; she'd never been obsessed with family ties. Her mentor had taught her not to force things. She didn't understand why she'd insisted on the Bennetts' respect in her past life. Now, it seemed ridiculous.

"But you taught Henry and Sophia a lesson for me today. Flattening their car was pretty cool," Odalys said with a chuckle.

She'd been shocked seeing it in her rearview mirror. She hadn't expected Percival to crash into Henry's car, effectively ending Henry's comeback. Seeing their panicked expressions had amused her. She thought, "When they face a stronger opponent, they don't dare do anything; they only bully the weak."

"I can do that, too. I'll handle anything," Percival laughed hoarsely. Odalys seemed like a lively girl to him; his expression softened.

"Mr. Stewart, don't tempt me into bad things. I'm a law-abiding citizen," Odalys said solemnly.

Percival laughed hoarsely. "Yes, you are indeed someone who doesn't do anything bad."
