Chapter 94

Evander was puzzled and had consulted an expert, but no one could determine if anything was wrong. Unexpectedly, Odalys immediately recognized a problem and even knew something was in the pool.

"I thought I was getting old and less capable," Evander said. "Even when Mr. Carline examined it previously, he found no problems."

Hearing the mention of Oliver, Odalys was surprised. "Is he the Oliver the Bennett family hired two days ago?" she asked softly.

Evander nodded. "Yes. He solves these problems for wealthy Crownridge families. He's successful and well-connected."

"I heard the Bennett family is having trouble," Odalys continued. "They tried to get Mr. Carline's help, but they had a falling out. He refuses to help them anymore."

This was common knowledge in the industry. Many mocked the Bennett family's shortsightedness in offending a prominent energy field expert.

Odalys said, "If you trust me, don't call Mr. Carline back. If he were truly capable, he would have found the deceased's clothing in the pond. Or perhaps he found it but didn't mention it because it didn't directly affect the Stewart family. However, your prolonged exposure, especially at your age, weakens your essential energy, affecting your health. This could seriously deteriorate your health over time."

Evander felt a chilling fear. Odalys's words were like daggers to his heart. Percival clenched his fists. He hadn't expected anyone would harm Evander in this way.

"Thank you," Percival's voice was hoarse.

Odalys smiled, hands clasped behind her back. "Why are you thanking me?"

Percival explained softly, "Thank you for creating a public scene. It will alert the enemy, causing those with ulterior motives to panic. They'll believe the matter is exposed and will likely restrain themselves, ensuring Grandpa's safety. Mr. Carline's failure to detect anything will make other wealthy families suspicious. He'll naturally visit, and if we refuse him, he'll worry, giving us the advantage."

Percival immediately understood Odalys's plan to alert the enemy. Though they hadn't interacted much, he knew she wasn't one for trouble or showing off. Her ostentatious gift-giving and rose-picking were clearly a deliberate act. He tacitly agreed, and she succeeded.

"My mission's complete. The 188 gold bars are mine," Odalys whispered. "After all, it's worth $20 million. I needed to show sincerity, and I didn't want to owe the Stewarts anything. I wanted to repay their kindness."

"188 gold bars? You like gold? I have some," Evander exclaimed, ready to find someone to get them for her.

"Don't, Grandpa," Odalys said. "He's already given me enough."

She handed him a rose. "Take this."

"Only 158 gold bars!" Evander looked thoughtfully at Percival. Doubt flickered in his eyes. "Percival, you're not usually this stingy." He clearly felt the amount was insufficient. Percival shifted uncomfortably, touching his nose.

"I was afraid she wouldn't accept too much," Percival mumbled, his voice hoarse and awkward.

"Why wouldn't she want it? Who doesn't like money?" Evander exclaimed.

Odalys quickly interjected, "Grandpa, it's enough. My suitcase is full. I don't dare ask for more. I think my work justifies the payment."

Evander calmed down. He then said softly, "Don't defend him. He's a man; he should be generous with women. We have the money. Odalys, I'll give you an advance. If you need help in the future, you can contact me."

"Let's discuss it after my variety show," Odalys replied, neither agreeing nor refusing. She didn't like taking on unnecessary pressure.

"I saw your last show. Your skills are as good as Percival's. This kid is too quiet. Honestly, he's not worthy of you," Evander declared, his admiration for Odalys growing. At only 20, she was already so capable—a rare talent.

Percival called out softly, "Grandpa…"

Evander raised an eyebrow. "Am I wrong? She's 20, and you're 28. You've had eight more years, yet you don't appreciate her accomplishments?"

Percival laughed ruefully. He was a decisive businessman, but Evander's reprimand was unavoidable. "You're right, Grandpa. I am inferior to Odalys. I hope she'll teach me a thing or two."

Odalys chuckled.

"What should we do with these clothes?" Evander asked, looking down at the clothes on the floor. They were intended for his son, who had passed away after wearing them only once.
