Chapter 22
Brendan’s lips were soft, and he was a skilled kisser. After a while, Naci felt her legs weakening from the kiss. With her arms around his neck and her chin resting on his shoulder, she anticipated more intimate contact. Suddenly, Brendan bit Naomi’s ear, exhaled hot breath, and whispered, “Naomi, your aunt is here.”
At first, Naomi didn’t react, thinking her aunt was abroad. Then she realized he was referring to her period. She immediately let go of Brendan, pulled at her pajamas, and looked. A bright red stain was visible on her buttocks.
She was speechless. She had lost a precious opportunity. Looking up at Brendan, who was calmly picking up a book and sitting on the bed as if nothing had happened, she understood. He had noticed her period and teased her.
Gritting her teeth, she said, “You got away with it this time, but not next time.”
Brendan looked up. “You’re still not getting changed?”
Naomi felt trapped. He held all the power. Embarrassed, she went to the bathroom. Because of her period, she stopped teasing him.
Although Brendan stayed home for the next few days, Naomi focused on her work, avoiding him. Brendan, however, had seen through her; she wouldn't interact unless she intended to. Besides occasional teasing, she dedicated herself to her work, even small cases.
Mason was right; Naomi was a good woman, but her only shortcoming was that she didn't love him.
“Naomi, look at the time. It’s time to sleep.” Brendan sat on the bed, putting down his book.
“I’m almost done. No need to wait,” Naomi replied.
“You’re just a lawyer, but you’re busier than me,” Brendan said, picking up his book again.
“I still need to fulfill my responsibilities,” Naomi responded.
Later, while Brendan read, Naomi suddenly rushed over, straddled him, and playfully twisted on his lap. Brendan calmly looked at her. “Since you’re snuggling into my arms now, it seems your period is over.”
“Can’t I do this even when it’s not?” Naomi asked.
Brendan put down his book and held her waist. “Let’s just talk.”
“There’s nothing to talk about. I’m just in a good mood,” Naomi replied, her happiness stemming from a successful case that day.
Seeing Naomi's affection, and recognizing her awareness of her actions, Brendan softened. He remembered their playful interactions from the past. He hugged her, listening as she talked about her work. When she grew sleepy, he turned off the lights. It had been a long time since they had such a pleasant conversation.
