Chapter 23

It was Johnson's birthday on Saturday. Naomi worked late that day. She was about to leave her client's office to go home and change clothes when Jason called. Going downstairs, she saw Brendan's car parked by the roadside. They had argued a few days earlier, after Heather told Brendan about the check, when Naomi was admitted to the hospital. Since then, however, their relationship had improved.

Opening the car door, Naomi raised her eyebrows and said, "You look great today."

Brendan replied, "I always look great."

Naomi smiled. "You have no sense of shame," she said.
