Chapter 32
Maximus looked at Brendan. The question had piqued his curiosity. Naomi smiled profoundly.
“Brendan? What are you hesitating about? Don’t tell me, you…” Mason began.
But before he could finish, Brendan’s cold stare silenced him. Brendan then looked at Bailey, vowing revenge. He took the glass and finished the wine without answering the question.
The other girls protested, demanding he drink at least three glasses. Brendan remained silent and downed the wine, choking as he swallowed. The girl beside him quickly gave him water.
His refusal to answer, however, drew attention, prompting speculation about his reasons. As if supporting him, two girls subsequently rolled three sixes. One chose Bailey for a shot; the other passed on Brendan. "Brendan, we're a team. I'll let you pick who you want for truth or dare!"
"Pick Naomi, Brendan. Ask her some scandalous questions," said another girl.
"Yeah, Brendan! Go for it!" someone else chimed in.
Naomi, beautiful and witty, was usually the center of attention, but few dared to challenge her. Since the power was in Brendan’s hands, everyone urged him to question her.
Brendan glanced at Naomi. He hadn’t wanted to participate; otherwise, he could have easily won. But he didn’t want to spoil everyone’s fun.
Naomi noticed his gaze. She folded her arms, sat back on the couch, legs crossed, her posture a challenge. She could handle anything he threw at her. Even a question about her virginity wouldn't embarrass her.
Brendan, disgusted by her cockiness, asked, "Have you eaten your dinner?"
An uproar followed.
"What kind of question was that? So boring!"
"You could have just told her to take a shot!"

Brendan ignored the commotion, waiting for Naomi’s answer. He wasn't stupid enough to argue with her publicly; they could do that at home. His only concern was whether Naomi was hungry.
Naomi smirked, impressed by his quick thinking. "No, I haven't," she replied casually. (She had told Maximus earlier that she had eaten, out of courtesy.)
Maximus felt a pang of sadness. He understood that, despite their fighting, Brendan and Naomi had a more intimate relationship than his courteous one with her.
Seeing their lack of seriousness, the others stopped picking them for the rest of the game, continuing their fun without them.
Later, when Naomi and Bailey went to the restroom, Bailey said, "Brendan was afraid of you, wasn't he? He didn't even dare to answer my question."
Naomi smiled. "He's probably afraid his father wouldn't forgive him if we argued."
