Chapter 36

Naomi panted, her hands pinned. Brendan's lips moved closer. She moaned as his kiss, violent and beastlike, landed.

He kissed her ears, whispering, "Naomi, don't you dare flirt with other men again."

She scoffed inwardly. After the baby was born, what could he do?

Wrapping her arms around his neck, she taunted, "Let's see if you can satisfy me, then."

He kissed her as she finished, then removed her nightgown. She smelled his familiar scent, tinged with alcohol—a sudden reminder. He'd drunk heavily earlier. "No, Brendan," she said, pushing him away. "Not tonight."

"What happened? Are you on your period?" he asked, holding her waist.

"You drank too much. We can't risk it," Naomi replied.

He bristled. "If you want to sleep with me, you'll have my baby tonight."

"Next time. I'm tired," she said, grabbing a blanket.

Brendan knew her type—self-serving. Dumbfounded by her capriciousness, he asked, "Naomi, you put on the porn. You're naked. Now you're tired?"

"We'll do it even if you die of exhaustion," he said, reaching for the blanket.

She pulled it tighter. "We can do it until dawn if you come back early tomorrow."

He lightly kicked her off the bed, catching her before she fell. He'd never met anyone so infuriating, yet she'd left an irreplaceable mark on his heart.

In the morning, Naomi woke to find Brendan gone. She didn't know he'd been sleepless, teased by her. Several times, he'd almost woken her, but remembering her long day in court, he'd refrained.

Chapter 36

After a light breakfast, Naomi left for her law firm. As she approached the office, she heard a familiar voice.

"Naomi," Chloe called. "Why are you here?"

Chloe approached. "I have documents for you. Did you forget we signed you as our legal representative?"

"Oh, right," Naomi said, accepting the papers. "Thank you."

Before Naomi could leave, Chloe stopped her. "Naomi, wait."
