Chapter 1343:

With that, Elyse and Jayden exited the hospital together. In the corridor, Dolores realized she had no leverage to take Shaun and, with Jaydenโ€™s strict orders, her options were severely limited. Frantically, she called her brother, Lowell. Lowell was taken aback by Jaydenโ€™s extensive involvement.

After a brief pause, Lowell advised, โ€œDolores, donโ€™t do anything reckless. We should wait and see.โ€

Dolores bit her lip, frustration evident in her voice. โ€œBut this is my chance. Shaunโ€™s return to me hinges on this moment.โ€

Lowell responded soothingly, โ€œDonโ€™t act on impulse. With Jaydenโ€™s men watching him and the real perpetrator still at large, any attempt to take Shaun now could backfire spectacularly.โ€

Elyse collapsed into the carโ€™s backseat, her mind entangled with thoughts of Doloresโ€™s recent actions. Each reflection deepened her suspicion, painting Dolores increasingly as the likely perpetrator.

Desperate to untangle her thoughts, she turned to Jayden, who seemed to anticipate her turmoil.

โ€œDolores isnโ€™t the culprit,โ€ he assured her. โ€œRemember, when Shaun had the accident, she was in Heathfieldโ€”she hasnโ€™t misled us.โ€

โ€œBut then, who is behind this?โ€ Elyse pressed, her voice tinged with frustration.

โ€œThe answer is simpler than we think,โ€ Jayden suggested with calm resolve. โ€œWe must look at those who harbored a grudge against Shaun. Who truly despised him?โ€

Elyseโ€™s response came hesitantly, laced with confusion. โ€œI hardly know him. How could I pinpoint his adversaries?โ€

โ€œYou know them better than you think,โ€ Jayden pressed gently. โ€œItโ€™s Tracy.โ€

The name struck Elyse like a cold gust. โ€œThatโ€™s absurd! Tracy? But sheโ€™s presumed dead!โ€

โ€œYet, didnโ€™t Shaun spot her in Cedarvale recently?โ€ Jayden countered, his voice even. โ€œConsider what she endured before her disappearance; such events could forge a vendetta.โ€

Elyse grappled with the implications, her rebuttal soft but firm. โ€œYouโ€™re basing this on the assumption Tracy is still alive.โ€

โ€œConsider thisโ€”my team scoured the seas for a month; Tracyโ€™s body was never found. She might be alive,โ€ Jayden posited.

Silenced by the exchange, Elyse found herself at a loss.

Jayden, noting her crestfallen look, offered consolation. โ€œLetโ€™s not spiral into these theories now. Go home, rest, and recharge. Weโ€™ll revisit this once Shaun wakes up.โ€

Acknowledging the wisdom in his words, Elyse consented with a weary nod.

After a night fraught with tension, the pair sought refuge in their shared room.

Elyseโ€™s rest extended well into the afternoon; she awoke disoriented and went downstairs to eat.

Mid-meal, the housemaid, standing in for Driscoll, approached with deference. โ€œDebora Owen is here again. Shall we let her in?โ€

โ€œHas Jayden woken up?โ€ Elyse inquired, hopefully. . . .
