Chapter 1391:

“Precisely. We can pretend to be a couple to appease our families. You can privately manage your relationship with your ex, and I'll continue searching for the right person. Does that sound like a plan?”

Elyse and Victor celebrated their agreement with a cheerful high-five as they entered the living room, immediately attracting the attention of Pearce and Felicia.

Felicia, noticing their buoyant mood, warmly commented, “It’s lovely to see you two in such high spirits.”

Pearce, however, appeared less than pleased and promptly pulled Victor aside to the bathroom.

Inside, Victor voiced his discomfort. “What’s with the bathroom interrogation? That’s not really our style.”

Pearce sharply questioned him, “What was all that laughter with Elyse about?”

With an innocent expression, Victor replied, “We were just having a pleasant conversation.”

“You expect me to believe that?” Pearce, suspicious, pressed Victor against the wall. “Why is my grandmother trying to set you up with Elyse?”

Victor straightened his clothing and explained, “I’m not getting any younger, and my parents are anxious for me to settle down. It seems your grandmother heard about it and decided to play matchmaker.”

Pearce released him, muttering, “She’s interfering too much. Elyse won’t like this at all.”

“Why don’t you believe Elyse and I could fall in love at first sight?” Victor asked.

With a dismissive snort, Pearce replied, “That’s ridiculous. She wouldn’t be interested in you.”

Temporarily silenced, Victor finally said, “Both you and Elyse seem remarkably confident. Have you considered that I might not be interested in her?”

Pearce remained firm. “Whether or not you’re interested, she wouldn’t be interested in you.”

Reaching his breaking point, Victor was about to confront Pearce physically when Pearce abruptly left the bathroom and rejoined the group.

Elyse announced, “Dinner’s ready. You two finally arrived.”

During dinner, Elyse ate quickly, planning her escape, but Felicia persistently steered the conversation toward Victor.
