Felicia's matchmaking efforts were becoming increasingly uncomfortable, even for Victor. After dinner, Elyse remained on the sofa, enduring Felicia's relentless chatter. Distracted, she checked her phone and saw a message from Jayden saying he was on his way.

Feeling relieved, Elyse rose. "Grandma, I have to go now."

Felicia, understanding Elyse's busy schedule, nodded. "Be careful." A moment later, she turned to Victor. "Victor, would you mind giving Elyse a ride? It's late for her to travel alone."

Victor readily agreed. "Of course, I'll take her home."

As they left the living room, Elyse calmly said, "That won't be necessary, Victor. I'm fine on my own. Take care."

Raising an eyebrow curiously, Victor asked, "Oh? Someone picking you up? Your ex?"

Elyse nodded. "Yes, you're free to go."

Their conversation continued as they reached the building entrance. A car waited outside, its hazard lights flashing. Elyse quickly bid Victor goodbye and hurried to the vehicle. From the doorway, Victor tried to see the driver through the tinted windows, but couldn't make out any details.

Inside the car, unseen by Victor, Jayden took a final drag of his cigarette, watching him intently. As Elyse settled into the passenger seat, she noticed the cigarette. Jayden immediately extinguished it and turned on the air conditioning to clear the smoke.

The engine started. Turning to Elyse, Jayden glanced at her several times before asking, "What's wrong? Did someone bother you?"

Resting her chin in her hand, Elyse replied vaguely, "Something like that."

Jayden chuckled softly.
