Chapter 432:

The inpatient department was nearly empty at that hour. Even the nurse on duty had nodded off, unnoticed by Glenda. Glenda replayed Lanny's words in her mind: "Just take off the oxygen mask."

The act would kill Dorothy within minutes; it was murder. The realization that she was about to take a life sent a wave of turmoil through Glenda's conscience.

She tiptoed into Dorothy's VIP ward and slowly approached her bed. Dorothy appeared frail and skeletal, her life sustained only by intravenous nutrients, her body in a prolonged coma. Glenda reached out, her fingers nearly brushing the mask, but she paused, her hand suspended in mid-air.

She couldn't go through with it. The thought of killing someone was unbearable. Frustration welled up inside her. It was a simple actโ€”removing an oxygen maskโ€”why couldn't she do it?

Glenda inhaled deeply, trying to steady her nerves. Her thoughts drifted to Mabel, her young daughter, recently unemployed. If Glenda didn't help, who would? Perhaps Lanny?

They had shared many years together, and Glenda believed she understood him completely. He was governed by self-love. If Mabel ever became a burden to his ambitions, he would abandon her without hesitation.

Thinking of Mabel, Glenda's resolve hardened. She meticulously removed the oxygen mask from Dorothy's face. Initially, Dorothy breathed evenly, showing no signs of distress. But then, her breathing became erratic, her heart rhythm faltered, and the heart monitor blared frantically.

Dorothy's eyes snapped open, fixing Glenda with a terrifying stare. Glenda recoiled in horror. Dorothy seemed demonic, a creature from the depths of hell. She reached out with a gaunt hand, trying to grasp Glenda.

Startled, Glenda screamed, shoved Dorothy away, spun around, and fled. The commotion had already alerted the hospital staff and Jayden's bodyguards. Glenda collided with one of Jayden's bodyguards as she exited the ward.

He seized her arm, glancing back at the chaos inside where the medical team frantically worked to save Dorothy. His gaze hardened as he turned to the visibly shaken Glenda. "Mrs. Lloyd," he said icily, "you need to come with me."

Bewildered and alarmed, Glenda stammered, "Why are you detaining me? I was just visiting Dorothy. I haven't done anything wrong! Why must I go with you?"

Lanny had assured her there were no cameras in the VIP ward. Even if she had tampered with the oxygen mask, there would be no evidence. She couldn't be blamed.

With a steely look, the bodyguard replied, "You need to explain to my boss why you removed the oxygen mask. I need to clear this up."

Fury consumed Glenda, and she retorted loudly, losing her composure. "I didn't do anything! Stop accusing me! How could I harm anyone? I just wanted to check on her recovery."

The bodyguard smirked. Though there were no official cameras, Jayden had installed his own. He had clear footage of Glenda's actions.

Ignoring her protests, he forcefully led her from the hospital. Panicking, Glenda cried, rummaging through her bag for her phone. She frantically dialed Lanny, but he didn't answer.

A sinking feeling overwhelmed her; she feared she had been abandoned.
