Chapter 507
Corrie emerged from a guest room at Enzo's estate, unsurprised to find Jayden there. Enzo's failed assassination attempt the previous day was too significant to ignore.
Dressed in a sharp shirt and suit pants, Corrie stepped out and encountered Enzo's butler, who was returning to see Enzo. She greeted him with a "Good morning."
The butler, who Jayden had scolded earlier, softened slightly at Corrie's respectful demeanor. He returned her greeting, a hint of satisfaction in his voice. "Good morning, Miss Bates. Have you had breakfast? I'll have the chef prepare something for you."
Corrie was pleasantly surprised. "Thank you."
The butler nodded and headed to the kitchen, leaving Corrie feeling touched by his thoughtfulness. She proceeded to the dining room, where Enzo was having breakfast.
He gave her a cold glance. "Have a seat," he instructed.
Nervous, Corrie sat down. Enzo ate in silence, his expression unreadable. Finally, he casually inquired, "I heard you were eager to see me last night. What's on your mind?"
Corrie nodded, her expression serious. "Mr. Owen, I need to discuss something crucial."
Enzo raised his eyebrows, encouraging her to continue.
"Yesterday's operation took an unexpected turn," Corrie said. "I diverted the target to Elyse to confirm a suspicion."
"And what suspicion is that?" Enzo prompted, remaining composed.
Leaning forward, Corrie whispered, "I suspect Elyse might be pregnant."
Enzo's gaze sharpened with surprise and intrigue. Corrie knew this could be a valuable bargaining chip.
After a tense moment, he spoke in a hushed tone, his expression complex. "Is Elyse truly pregnant?"
"Without a doubt. You can verify it in Elyse's hospital records."
Just then, the butler entered with Corrie's breakfast. "Please enjoy, Miss Bates," he said, placing the plate before her.
Enzo ate quietly, seemingly preoccupied. Corrie, sensing the gravity of the situation, remained silent.
After breakfast, Corrie prepared to leave, but Enzo stopped her. "There's a small gathering at my place tomorrow evening. You and Brook are welcome."
Corrie graciously accepted, concealing her excitement. "Thank you for the invitation, Mr. Owen. We'll be there."
Enzo dismissed her, and the butler escorted her out. With a cheerful smile, he congratulated her. "Congratulations, Miss Bates. Mr. Owen's recognition is remarkable. Among the younger generation, only Jayden has received this invitation. Brook should be glad to have a girlfriend like you."
Corrie was deeply grateful. "I'll strive to be his capable help, sharing his burdens."
The butler chuckled. "I suppose you'll be calling him Grandpa soon."
Corrie blushed, feeling embarrassed. After bidding farewell, she entered her car, brimming with excitement. Her joy overflowed, and she let out a happy shout. The driver in front, startled, turned around, fear in his eyes. "Miss, you scared me. Please be quieter."
Corrie apologized, but her excitement remained. She reached for her phone to tell Brook, but hesitated, remembering his lackluster responses to her messages. Determined to secure his attendance, she dialed his number.
Brook answered impatiently. "Why'd you call so early? I haven't got time to go shopping with you!"
Corrie rolled her eyes. "Your grandpa invited me to a gathering tomorrow. As my boyfriend, your presence is non-negotiable," she said firmly.
Brook was confused. "Why would my grandpa invite you? It's usually for his close associates. What makes you worthy?" His tone was skeptical and curious.
Corrie's voice hardened. "That's not for you to question. You need to be there, and you better behave. If you embarrass me, you'll regret it."
