Chapter 579
Irvingโs mind went blank. Heโd heard her clearly, but couldnโt comprehend how a previously unthreatened pregnancy was suddenly gone. Gavin accepted the reality faster, somberly holding a distraught Elyse for support. "Elyse," he said, "pull yourself together. Tell me exactly what happened. I might be able to help."
He recalled Fiona's earlier guilt and anxiety. If Fiona was involved, he'd need to reassess her integrity.
Elyse recounted the afternoon's events. Irving and Gavin were furious when they learned Fiona had remained passive. Gavin's eyes were red with rage. Fiona should have done more than remain silent during and after the incident. Even if she couldn't have stopped Elyse's abduction, she could have screamed for help. Fiona hadn't handled the situation properly.
To quell his rage, Irving punched a nearby wall. "Where's Jayden?" he asked, trying to control his anger.
"He's unconscious," Elyse said, cupping her face. "He was more severely injured than I was." Her shoulders trembled.
The sight of her pain was unbearable. Irving turned to leave. Gavin stopped him. "Where are you going?" he asked sternly.
Irving gritted his teeth. "To the studio. I need to find Fiona and ask her about her silence."
Gavin, surprised by Irving's forceful movement, pulled him back. "Really? And you think she'll answer you? Why would she open up to someone she dislikes?" He sighed. "Don't worry, I'll talk to her later."
Irving paused, then headed for the door again.
Gavin frowned. "Where are you going now?"
"To see if Jayden's awake," Irving said, leaving without looking back.
Gavin noticed Elyse was lost in thought. He waved a hand before her, bringing her back to reality. Her response was slow; she was overwhelmed by helplessness and pain.
Sitting beside her, he tried to hide his emotions. "Are you aware Mr. Tucker will be back soon? His flight from Watscar is in two days," he said calmly. He paused. "He misses you terribly. He bought many gifts for you and the babyโbefore we learned about the loss. He also wants to celebrate your top score."
Elyse smiled sadly. "The baby's gone. The gifts aren't necessary."
Gavin gently patted her head. "Beyond the baby, he loves you very much. So do Irving and I. We'll support you."
Elyse's stare made him uncomfortable. "I appreciate you both so much. You're kind and gentle."
Gavin, unexpectedly complimented, coughed lightly. "This is a difficult time, but we'll get through it together."
"Thank you, Gavin," Elyse said with a tight smile.
Irving rushed in, gasping. "Elyse, he's awake! Jayden's awake! The doctors are examining him!"
Elyse was surprised. "Are you sure? Really awake?"
Irving nodded excitedly. "Yes! His friends are there. Do you want to see him?"
She stared upward, then threw off the sheets and leaped out of bed barefoot.
Gavin gently scolded, "Why the rush? Put on your shoes. We know Jayden's fine."
"Rush? No, I can't find my slippers," she said.
Gavin chuckled. "Oh, I see. Not you, but we are in a hurry. Put something on before you go."
