Chapter 607:

Lanny's alcohol-clouded mind fueled his impulsive and erratic behavior. His grip tightened on the machete as his emotions spiraled. Without thinking, he swung it at Glenda.

Clarity returned to a horrifying scene: the machete embedded in Glenda's body. The blade was lodged in her neck, spurting blood. Glenda's eyes, wide with shock, met Lanny's. She couldn't believe her life was ending like this, at the hands of the man she'd shared it with for over two decades.

Lanny stared at Glenda's now lifeless eyes. She was dead, instantly, beyond help.

Elyse, too, hadn't anticipated this. Her plan had been to see Glenda imprisoned alongside Lanny. Instead, Glenda was dead, a victim of Lanny's impulsive act.

After a brief glance at Glenda's blood-soaked body, Elyse turned to the swaying Lanny. "You've just killed your wife, and there are plenty of witnesses," she said coldly. "How will you dodge the blame this time? Will you claim you were drunk?"

Lanny remained silent, the shock of Glenda's death sobering him. He knew he couldn't escape the consequences.

Yet, a fog lingered. He couldn't understand why he'd killed Glenda instead of Janet—Janet had been his intended target.

This thought prompted him to search for Morgan. Morgan, previously tied to the floor, now stood behind the police, her gaze a mixture of scorn and relief. The rope on the floor confirmed the reality of his actions against her; Glenda's death wasn't a dream.

Overwhelmed, Lanny lunged at Elyse, yelling, "You damn bitch! This is all your fault! I should have killed you when I murdered your parents. You all deserved to die!"

His later regret over showing "mercy" couldn't change what happened. His assault on Elyse was futile. He failed to harm her, overpowered by her bodyguards before being handcuffed by the police.

Still defiant, he shouted, "I should have strangled you, you witch! How dare you come after me! I'll get you!"

Elyse watched, baffled. How could Jazmine, her mother, have had such a brother? She stared at him with disdain. "It's unfortunate you didn't strangle me. Your hesitation allowed me to live, discover my real parents, and learn who usurped their property and caused their deaths."

Lanny's shouting continued until the police gagged him and led him away.

Elyse approached Morgan, who handed a recorder and locator to the police as evidence. Surprised, Morgan said, "I thought Jayden would handle this. I didn't expect you."

Elyse replied calmly, "Anyone could have, but Jayden is still recovering. It was best I come."

Morgan looked at Glenda's body, surrounded by police. Concerned, she asked Elyse, "Are you alright? Was this frightening?"

Elyse, maintaining her composure, glanced at the body. "I'm fine, though shocked. I never imagined Lanny would kill Glenda. She was his wife."

Morgan responded, "You don't know Lanny. He's selfish and impulsive. He always prioritizes his desires. Regardless of his later regret, he wanted to kill Glenda in that moment. The alcohol was just an excuse."
