Chapter 627:
Mia escorted Eva back to her office and slammed the door shut. Frustration bubbling over, she snapped, "What's wrong with you? Have you lost your mind? If you don't want to work here, leave. Don't behave inappropriately in the office!"
Eva's face fell. "Why are you being so harsh? That's a terrible thing to say."
Observing Eva's defiance, Mia took a deep breath, attempting to control her anger. When she looked up again, her eyes were devoid of emotion. She said firmly, "Let go of these fantasies. That woman is Mr. Owen's wife. You saw it yourself. He even called several executives into his office to appease her."
Her tone grew colder. "This time, Mrs. Owen let it slide. But if she'd pursued it, do you think you'd still be here arguing with me?"
Eva's confidence faltered; her arrogance replaced by apprehension. She responded guardedly, "Mia, you've misunderstood. I didn't mean anything by it. It's a misunderstanding."
Mia knew better. "Regardless of your claims, you're no longer handling important documents. Consider this a warning. Stop daydreaming."
Eva bristled. "If I can't take documents upstairs, who will?"
Mia scoffed. "Do you think you're the only secretary at Bayzee Group? Eva, I've warned you. Mr. Owen is not someone to trifle with. Focus on your work and keep your personal life to yourself, or I can't guarantee your job."
Eva clenched her jaw. "I understand."
She turned to leave.
"Wait," Mia said, her eyes narrowing as she looked at Eva's outfit. "Starting tomorrow, you're not allowed to wear those clothes."
Eva's expression darkened. "I have the right to dress as I please. You can't control my clothing."
Mia replied slowly, "Everyone is free to dress as they choose. However, I won't tolerate inappropriate attire in the workplace."
Fuming, Eva snapped, "You're attacking me! You're slandering me!"
Mia retorted, "So? If you're offended, file a complaint. We'll see who's forced out—you or me."
Eva tried to argue, but Mia calmly cut her off. "If you want to keep your job, go back to work and accept the consequences. Otherwise, I'll dismiss you on Mrs. Owen's behalf."
Overwhelmed, Eva left, tears in her eyes. She noticed the other secretaries watching her and understood why.
Frustrated, she snapped, "What are you all staring at? Haven't you got anything better to do?"
The secretaries exchanged glances and giggled.
Humiliated, Eva rushed out and went to the first-floor coffee shop.
Half an hour later, coffee in hand, she began to calm down. She saw Elyse entering. Elyse looked expressionless, her long hair cascading over her shoulders. She wasn't wearing tight clothing, yet her beauty was striking. She was Jayden's wife.
This worsened Eva's mood. She'd been infatuated with Jayden since her first day. He was composed, confident, and decisive in business, while maintaining a professional distance from women. She considered him a high-caliber man and was determined to win his affection. However, company gossip that day revealed Jayden's wife was visiting.
Eva felt devastated. When had he married? She hadn't even made her move.
Determined to see for herself, Eva had taken Lewis's document to the CEO's office. Opening the door, she saw Jayden and his wife kissing. The sight was unbearable.
The thought was overwhelming. How could the man she adored be kissing—
Rising, coffee in hand, Eva approached Elyse, who, having just ordered, looked up.
