Chapter 643:

Elyseโ€™s eyes widened in shock; her heart hammered against her ribs. Instinctively, she shot up. โ€œHowโ€™d you find me? Were you stalking me?โ€

Jayden ignored her, his icy gaze locking on Pearce. The warmth drained from Jaydenโ€™s face, replaced by a chilling frost.

โ€œSo heโ€™s the reason for the divorce request,โ€ a humorless laugh escaped his clenched teeth, sending shivers down Elyseโ€™s spine.

โ€œItโ€™s not what you think,โ€ Elyse interjected, desperate to clear the air.

But her words were cut short as Jaydenโ€™s grip tightened around her wrist, yanking her back to his side. His deep eyes, devoid of warmth, drilled into hers. โ€œNot another word for him,โ€ he growled, the threat barely veiled.

The blood drained from Elyseโ€™s face. She stood frozen, terrified that even a single word would ignite his fury.

Witnessing Jaydenโ€™s possessiveness, Pearceโ€™s resolve hardened. This man was no good for Elyse. With a grim set to his jaw, Pearce stood. โ€œIf you canโ€™t make her happy, maybe you donโ€™t deserve her. She has every right to divorce you.โ€

Jaydenโ€™s jaw clenched tightly. โ€œWhat did you just say?โ€

โ€œIโ€™ll deliver the divorce papers myself,โ€ Pearce continued, his voice unwavering. โ€œIf you truly love her, let her go.โ€

His gaze met Jaydenโ€™s; the tension in the room was thick enough to cut with a knife. Both men, towering figures of the business world, faced off, their silent confrontation filling the private room.

Fearing the worst, Elyse squeezed between them, acting as a human buffer. One was her husband, the other her cousin. The last thing she needed was a brawl.

Her voice choked. Elyse pleaded with Pearce, โ€œPlease, just go.โ€

Pearceโ€™s brow furrowed. โ€œArenโ€™t you coming with me?โ€

Elyse sighed, the sound heavy with resignation. โ€œWe can talk later. Please, just donโ€™t make this worse.โ€

Pearceโ€™s eyes softened, realizing Elyseโ€™s feelings had also softened. He had underestimated the depth of her feelings for Jayden, but her wish to leave signaled that her marriage was inescapable.

With a tremor in her voice, Elyse repeated, โ€œJust go.โ€

Pearce took a deep breath, a silent concession. โ€œFine. But donโ€™t hurt her, Jayden. Sheโ€™s not someone you can afford to mess with.โ€

Jayden met Pearceโ€™s glare with a coldness of his own. As soon as the door shut behind Pearce, his weary gaze shifted to Elyse. โ€œYou really want to divorce me that badly? Where did I go wrong?โ€

Elyse tilted her head away, her lips pressed into a thin line.

Frustration bubbled up inside Jayden. โ€œTalk to me. Whatโ€™s the reason? Did Pearce put something in your head? Do you want to run off with him?โ€ His voice rose with each question.

Elyse had had enough. โ€œYou donโ€™t want a divorce? Fine. Then tell me everything. Your past, everything. If you do that right now, the divorce is off the table.โ€

Jaydenโ€™s jaw dropped; disbelief was etched across his face. โ€œA divorce over something so trivial? Whatโ€™s gotten into you?โ€

โ€œTrivial?โ€ Elyse retorted, her voice rising. โ€œIs that all this is to you? We canโ€™t have a real conversation! Thereโ€™s a wall around your heart, and you keep me out. Youโ€™re pushing me away!โ€

Tears welled up in her eyes. โ€œHow can you possibly love me if your heartโ€™s closed?โ€

Jaydenโ€™s helplessness seeped through. โ€œYouโ€™re already in my heart. What more do you want?โ€

The storm in Elyse subsided, replaced by a chilling calm. She knew Jayden wouldnโ€™t open up, not ever. In a quiet voice, she said, โ€œYou hide behind a mask, Jayden. Donโ€™t you see? I know what I am to you. It scares me. Thereโ€™s no security, no trust. It feels like you could walk away at any moment. Do you understand?โ€

A single word, devoid of warmth, escaped Jaydenโ€™s lips. โ€œBoring.โ€ Then, with a rough hand, he grabbed her arm and ushered her out.

Back at their home, Jayden tossed Elyse onto the sofa. He addressed a startled Driscoll. โ€œKeep an eye on her. No leaving, no visitors, until she gets over this divorce nonsense.โ€

Driscollโ€™s eyes widened in surprise. โ€œGeez! You want a divorce?โ€

Elyse lay on the plush cushions, her eyes filled with a mixture of anger and helplessness.

โ€œDonโ€™t you dare give me those accusatory eyes,โ€ Jayden snapped. โ€œYouโ€™re the one being ridiculous. Iโ€™ve showered you with everything, and this is how you repay me? By demanding a divorce over a minor issue?โ€

Elyseโ€™s voice trembled. โ€œIโ€™m the one being ridiculous? But Iโ€™ve tried to talk to you! You never listen to how I feel about this.โ€

Jayden coldly replied, โ€œI listen to you, but youโ€™re wrong. Why should I listen if youโ€™re wrong?โ€
