Chapter 696:
Through her sobs, Thea lamented, โGrandma, Iโve been friends with Forrest for so many years. Because of Elyse, Iโve lost that friendship, and now thereโs no hope for peace between the two families. I canโt do what you asked of me!โ
Felicia, leaning heavily on her cane, slowly rose, approached Thea, and gently patted her head. โDonโt cry, dear. I know youโve been wronged. Rest assured, I will stand up for you.โ
Thea continued to sob. โBut what about Pearceโs project? I could have helped him, but nowโฆ I canโt do anything for him anymore.โ
Feliciaโs eyes softened. She comforted Thea, โSweetheart, Pearce may not realize your worth, but you still choose to assist him. Heโs lucky to have a cousin like you.โ
Theaโs face showed even more grievance. โEveryone knows how much I care for him, but he doesnโt. In his heart, thereโs only Elyse!โ
The mere mention of Elyseโs name deepened the disdain in Feliciaโs eyes. โItโs all Elyseโs fault! Ever since she returned, nothing has been right. I will make sure she pays for this! She thinks she can do whatever she wants with Pearceโs backing? Dream on!โ
Wiping away her tears, Thea said pitifully, โGrandma, Iโm exhausted. I want to rest in my room.โ
โOf course, dear,โ Felicia said, urging Thea to go.
Back in her room, Thea went to her bathroom, stood before the mirror, and wiped away her makeup. A chuckle escaped her lips, unexpected but irrepressible.
โWell, Elyse, your presence isnโt entirely in vain,โ she mused. โYou can be my scapegoat!โ
She could hardly wait to see how Felicia would punish Elyse.
The following morning found Elyse in the yard, struggling to stay awake as Gavin meticulously arranged sheet music for their practice session.
Cody, phone in hand, approached them. โIโve got our flight tickets. We leave in two days.โ
A grin played on Codyโs lips. โTaking you there early so you can acclimate.โ
Elyse blinked in surprise, then nodded. โAlright, Mr. Tucker.โ
Noticing Elyseโs distraction, Gavin raised an eyebrow. โGot everything squared away? Ready to go abroad without any loose ends?โ
Elyse smiled. โEverything is basically done. I have no regrets.โ
โThatโs good to hear.โ Gavin nodded.
They didnโt fly directly abroad because Elyse had personal matters to attend to. Though unaware of her reasons, they didnโt mind accompanying her.
One morning, after practicing the violin, Elyse sat daydreaming when the doorbell rang.
Gavin and Cody were out shopping; Elyse was alone.
She walked to the door and asked, โWho is it?โ
Theaโs cold voice replied, โItโs me, Thea Benson. I need to talk to you.โ
Why would Thea suddenly appear?
Elyse was puzzled but opened the door. . . .
