Chapter 697:
She frowned at Theaโs smug smile and asked, โWhat do you want?โ
โGrandma asked me to bring you back. Are you coming with me?โ Thea asked sarcastically, raising an eyebrow.
Doubt lingered in Elyseโs mind. She wondered why Felicia wanted to see her. Had Pearce convinced Felicia to listen to her play the violin?
โFine, Iโll go with you,โ Elyse agreed, believing her only connection to Felicia was her desire to play the violin for her before leaving.
Theaโs smile broadened. โGood. Follow me.โ
Elyse got into the car and accompanied Thea back to the Benson Estate. The moment she stepped into the living room, she sensed an unusual atmosphere. She quietly observed her surroundings before sitting down to wait for Felicia.
A few minutes later, Felicia, leaning on a cane, approached Elyse. Her gaze fell on the violin case in Elyseโs hand, and her expression darkened.
Sitting across from Elyse, Felicia asked sternly, โWhat were you doing at the Bentleysโ banquet yesterday?โ
Elyse glanced at Thea, who stood nearby, and replied calmly, โI was invited to their banquet.โ
Thea immediately interjected, โImpossible. You didnโt have an invitation. Everyone knows they dislike your dad. How could they send you one?โ
Elyse countered, โIs an invitation necessary to attend their banquet?โ
Thea sneered, โIt shows how little you know. Who hosts a banquet without sending invitations? You really are a bumpkin. I bet you just snuck in.โ
Elyse shrugged nonchalantly. โIโm the exception.โ
Feliciaโs voice turned icy. โHow could you have special privileges? What were you really doing there?โ
Elyse sensed something was amiss. โDidnโt you call me here to listen to my violin performance?โ
Felicia snorted. โListen to you play? Thatโs laughable. Why would I want to hear that?โ
Stunned, Elyse asked, โThen why did you call me here?โ
Thea, raising her chin, said smugly, โWhy? You donโt realize you offended someone at the Bentley family? Because of you, I was permanently cut off from them. If you hadnโt done what you did, this wouldnโt have happened.โ
Elyse retorted, โIsnโt it typical for you to be cut off? Youโre just Forrestโs sycophant. He discarded you, and now youโre pinning the blame on me?โ
Thea didnโt expect Elyse to be so blunt. Theaโs eyes flashed with venom. โForrest and I are friends, not whatever youโre insinuating. Youโve not only ruined my relationship with him but also slandered me. Elyse, how could you be so cruel?โ
In a sudden moment of clarity, Elyse understood Theaโs ploy. Thea had been cast aside by the Bentley family and now needed a scapegoat to deflect Feliciaโs wrath.
Elyse turned to Felicia, her feelings a tumultuous mix of confusion and frustration.
