Chapter 698:

Felicia was her grandmother by blood, but their relationship was far from close. Felicia despised her. Elyse had once hoped to connect with Felicia, but seeing the disgust on her grandmotherโ€™s face, she realized it was futile.

After a moment, Elyse asked, with a touch of unnoticeable anticipation, โ€œDo you really believe Thea? Do you think I ruined her connections with the Bentley family, or is she lying?โ€

Thea smiled slightly, her eyes mocking Elyse. Having been with Felicia since childhood, Felicia naturally believed Thea.

Thea inwardly cursed Elyse for her audacity. Feliciaโ€™s attitude toward Elyse had always been consistent; as the daughter of Feliciaโ€™s most despised son, Elyse was scorned by association.

Feliciaโ€™s authoritative voice rang out. โ€œWhy should I believe you over Thea? I raised Thea; I know her character.โ€

Elyse, anticipating this, remained calm. โ€œSo, why did you call me here?โ€

Felicia replied immediately, โ€œYou have no manners. Your casual attitude has been annoying since we met.โ€

She turned to a maid. โ€œLock her in the guest room. I will teach her manners.โ€

Thea barely concealed her delight. Felicia had countless ways to subdue people, and confining Elyse was a clear indication of her intent to slowly break her. Thea triumphantly mouthed to Elyse, โ€œYouโ€™re finished.โ€

Elyseโ€™s face darkened, realizing Feliciaโ€™s intent to punish her gradually. Her grandmotherโ€™s methods were ruthless. However, Elyse refused to stay.

โ€œI wonโ€™t stay here. This isnโ€™t my home. Iโ€™m leaving,โ€ she declared.

Thea provoked her. โ€œNice try, but didnโ€™t you return for inheritance and shares? Donโ€™t pretend.โ€

Elyse retorted, โ€œYou want the shares and resources, not me. I never wanted anything from the Benson family. I came to see Grandma.โ€

Thea laughed scornfully. โ€œWho would believe that? Obey Felicia. Youโ€™ve done wrong, and sheโ€™s giving you a chance. Appreciate it.โ€

Elyse frowned and addressed Felicia, โ€œI know you dislike me, but I never planned to take anything. I came to visit you. I will leave when the time comes.โ€

Felicia ignored her, pointing to Elyseโ€™s violin. โ€œTake her violin. I donโ€™t want to see it. It displeases me.โ€

The maid nodded and approached Elyse, reaching for the violin case. Elyse clutched it tightly. โ€œIโ€™ve told you, this isnโ€™t my home! What more do you want?โ€ . . .
