Chapter 117

With feigned hurt, she spoke. “Kaleb, what exactly is your relationship with her? Why are you always defending her?” Her words were venomous, clearly intended to sow doubt in Julian’s mind. Even if Kaleb and Rosalie were completely innocent, the mere implication would still make Julian question Rosalie. Besides, if Attiva learned of this, Rosalie would be in serious trouble, and she could never remain.

Kaleb’s expression instantly changed; his eyes sharpened, like ice, as he looked at Roseanne. He was known as the calmest and most well-mannered man among the aristocratic families. He rarely lost his temper, no matter the provocation. Roseanne’s insinuation struck a nerve. Kaleb’s glare was cold and cutting, his fury evident. Although he seldom displayed anger openly, it was clear he was deeply upset.

Though Roseanne knew Kaleb wouldn’t be angry with her, she felt heat rise in her chest and instinctively shrank back, moving closer to Julian. “I’m not going to explain our relationship to you because you don’t deserve to know,” Kaleb shot back, his voice low and contemptuous. He then turned to Julian. “Man, it’s your private business. I don’t want to interfere. If you actually like someone like her, I seriously question your judgment.”

Kaleb’s words were sharp, and his fury had clearly overcome his usual composure. This wasn’t merely about defending Rosalie; he deliberately humiliated Roseanne in front of everyone. Roseanne’s face flushed crimson with fury and embarrassment. Her anger was evident, but she suppressed it, restraining her emotions in front of Julian, allowing only a small sob to escape. “Kaleb, I haven’t done anything to you, have I? Why are you taking her side?”
