Chapter 87
Julian emerged from the bathroom, fresh from his shower, to find Rosalie still seated, lost in thought. Something seemed different about her, yet upon closer inspection, nothing appeared to have changed.
He remained silent; he'd learned his lesson. Every encounter with this woman left him intensely frustrated, on the verge of exploding. He dressed quickly and headed for the door, but hesitated, glancing back at her. Recalling the doctor's warning from the previous night, he said curtly, "Don't get your foot wet. Don't walk around. If you need anything—"
"Clot it," Rosalie replied calmly, almost indifferently. She didn't even look at him.
Once Julian was gone, Rosalie took a deep breath, composed herself, and called Clara to bring her some clothes. When Clara arrived and saw Rosalie getting dressed to leave, she immediately tried to stop her. "Ma'am, your foot is still in pretty bad shape. You should really be resting in bed. If you need anything, just let me know; I'll handle it for you!"
Rosalie buttoned her coat and replied casually, "I will rest. But first, get me a car. I'm going home."
Clara hesitated, clearly confused. "Ma'am, are you still mad at Mr. Galloway?" Clara assumed that since Julian had brought Rosalie back to Rosalian Manor, she would finally stay. After all, Rosalie had always been deeply in love with Julian. Now that she had a chance to reconcile, why would she leave again?
Rosalie looked up at Clara and smiled. "Mad? What's there to be mad about? We're divorced. I don't have anything here. It's not exactly the best place to recover, don't you think?"
Rosalie knew that if she were sensible, she'd leave before Julian returned with Roseanne. Otherwise, things would become extremely awkward.
Clara didn't understand Rosalie's reasoning. She assumed Rosalie was simply being stubborn and throwing a tantrum. She continued to persuade Rosalie, "Ma'am, if you need anything, just tell me. I'll arrange it. But you should stay here and rest. If you leave now, I can't even explain to Mr. Galloway when he comes back."
Rosalie continued buttoning her coat, but at that last sentence, she almost laughed aloud.
