Chapter 88
Rosalie didn't have the patience to explain anything to Clara. She simply urged, “Get me a car, please. If Julian asks, just tell him I insisted on leaving.”
Now that Julian's beloved ex was back, Rosalie didn't believe he would have time to care about his soon-to-be ex-wife. She felt Clara was overthinking things.
Seeing how firm Rosalie was, Clara had no choice but to comply.
Rosalian Manor was in an exclusive area, inhabited only by the wealthiest. Residents had their own chauffeurs, and regular cabs didn't service the neighborhood. The car Clara managed to summon wouldn't arrive for some time.
Not wanting to remain in the bedroom, full of painful memories, Rosalie enlisted Clara's help to go downstairs.
As they passed through the garden, something caught her eye: the lilies she had planted were still there.
With a slight frown, Rosalie asked, “I thought these flowers were supposed to be removed.”
“They were,” Clara replied. “But Mr. Galloway stopped it.”
Rosalie blinked, momentarily stunned. “Julian stopped it?”
Rosalie had always loved lilies. Her grandfather had told her that her mother had loved them too. When she first moved in with Julian, she had a special area of the garden cleared to plant them.
Julian had never explicitly said he disliked them, but he would frown whenever he saw her tending to them. She figured if it wasn't the flowers he hated, it had to be her. So, when she left Rosalian Manor, she didn't care whether the lilies remained.
But Clara clearly had a different perspective. Always eager to play matchmaker, Clara hesitated before saying, “Ma'am, maybe Mr. Galloway isn't as indifferent to you as you think. He just… doesn't know how to express himself.” Like last night, he carried you back himself, made you drink the hangover cure, and even helped you bathe. He’s never done anything like that for anyone before.
The mention of the bath made Rosalie's head prickle uncomfortably. She wouldn't stand there listening to Clara praise Julian. Rosalie quickly interrupted, “Alright, that’s enough, Clara. No need to bring up last night.”
Considering his care for her, she could only assume that, for one brief moment, some other influence had possessed him. As for why Julian had gone to the trouble of caring for her,…
“Madam…” Clara still wanted to say something, but the car arrived.
“The car’s here,” Rosalie interrupted before Clara could continue.
Mir refused to be as naive as she had been in her past life. Back then, a few kind words about Julian would have made her waver, thinking there might still be hope. In her current life, she wouldn't allow that to happen again.
A man with no heart wouldn't be moved, no matter what she did. Since Rosalie was determined to leave, there was nothing Clara could do but see her off.
At Galloway Group headquarters, Alan was reporting to Julian.
“Mr. Galloway, Ascend Group has been in contact with Apex Biotech’s management. They’re looking to collaborate on an HIV treatment project. This is the partnership proposal they sent, along with some of their current research data.”
Alan handed Julian the folder and respectfully waited for instructions.
Julian's eyes narrowed slightly as he muttered, “Ascend Group… Theo Palmer’s company?”
“Yes,” Alan confirmed, subtly studying Julian’s expression.
