Chapter 190
She seemed worried about Calliope but was thrilled inside. The more Calliope ticked off that guy, the better. She loved a good spectacle and didnโt mind the chaos.
โHey, Mr. Horatio, isnโt that your sister over there? Arenโt you going to step in and help her out?โ Someone called over to Horatio and his group.
โWe only have one sister, and sheโs here with us. That woman? Iโve never seen her before,โ Ulysses scoffed, purposely raising his voice so everyone around could hear.
A ripple of whispers and chuckles spread through the crowd.
Calliope and Portia heard it too.
Especially Calliope. She knew Ulysses was making sure she heard him. She lifted her eyes and glanced toward his way. Her expression was calm, her eyes indifferent, almost icy.
Ulysses felt a weird twinge of discomfort at her gaze but stubbornly raised an eyebrow at her, as if he was daring her.
โGo on. Beg us for help,โ he seemed to challenge silently.
But Calliope was unfazed. She looked at them as if they were strangers.
Just then, Gideon appeared out of nowhere, positioning himself where Calliope could clearly see him. He surveyed the scene, assuming sheโd turn to someone for help now that the Jewell family wasnโt backing her. He wanted her to come to him for assistance.
Calliope did see Gideon, but she didnโt react at all. She didnโt even spare him a second glance, as if he were invisible.
โFine, Iโm calling the cops now! Letโs see how you handle that!โ the man shouted, pulling out his phone to dial 911.
Calliope remained calm. โGo ahead. Call them.โ
She picked up a wine and swirled it lazily, exuding a chilling aura that was hard to put into words.
The police arrived in no time.
Before Calliope could say a word, the man launched into an accusatory rant. The officers turned to the woman with him, โDid she assault you?โ
โYes, she hit me!โ The woman squinted maliciously at Calliope. โSheโs trying to steal my husband, so she attacked us both!โ
โWhat theโฆโ Portia was flabbergasted, โLady, there are cameras here. You had those bruises when you showed up! Your husbandโs the one who hit you. How dare you pin this on Callie?โ
โCameras? Oh, the cameras must be down,โ the woman retorted slyly.
โAnybody here see what happened?โ the man pressed the crowd. โDid I hit her?โ
Everyone glanced at the Jewell family, but they remained silent. The crowd followed suit, not a word from anyone.
Portia laughed in disbelief. โThey must be blind. But I saw it. This guy has abused his wife. But his wife is no saint either. Serves her right!โ
โNo, it wasnโt him!โ the woman sobbed, โIt was her! She attacked me on purpose!โ
โHey, Gideon, you saw what happened, right?โ Portia turned to him. โCallie didnโt hit anyone, did she?โ
Gideon glanced at Calliope. โIt doesnโt look like sheโs asking for my help.โ
