Chapter 222

โ€œLisette, hurry up and check on your brother!โ€ Monty urged her.

Lisette barely knew what she was doing, but she still went through the motions, placing her fingers on Horatioโ€™s wrist as if she actually understood how to check a pulse. She put on a convincing enough act before looking up at Monty and Horatio.

โ€œDad, Horatio, Iโ€™m not a professional. I really canโ€™t do much here. But I heard that the Miracle Doctor is in Capitalton! Recently, Upton Thorne, the wealthiest man from Sea City, brought his son here, and rumor has it โ€“ itโ€™s because of her.

If we keep an eye on Upton, weโ€™ll find her! And once we do, everything will be solved! People say she can do the impossibleโ€“heal wounds that should never heal, bring back people from the brink of death. Fixing a leg like Horatioโ€™s? Thatโ€™s nothing to her!โ€

Monty seemed excited. โ€œAre you serious?โ€

โ€œDead serious.โ€ Lisetteโ€™s tone was unwavering.

A glimmer of hope sparkled in Horatioโ€™s eyes.

โ€œSo if we find her, my legs can be saved? Thatโ€™s brilliant.โ€

He had thought his legs would start recovering within a few hours. But to his astonishment, his legs still lacked strength. Two days passed, and still, he couldnโ€™t so much as stand.

Since Upton was staying at St. Mercy Hospital, the most prestigious medical facility in Capitalton, Lisette and Valerian accompanied Horatio there.

Calliope felt a tad surprised when receiving a call from Upton.

When she learned that he and Baber had arrived in Capitalton, she didnโ€™t waste a second. She grabbed her longโ€“unused medical kit and headed straight for St. Mercy Hospital.

She hadnโ€™t touched her medical tools in years, not since her grandfather passed away.

But maybe it was time. Her grandfather wouldnโ€™t have wanted her to give up healing people. If he were there, he wouldโ€™ve been disappointed.

Besides, this was Baber, her godson. A small smile tugged at her lips as she thought of him.

Itโ€™d been a while since the last time she saw Baber, an extremely adorable child. She had been the one to deliver him into this world, and he was expressly bright. But his health had always been fragile.

Maybe it was time to find a permanent solution, something that would ensure his full recovery, instead of him suffering through this again and again.

Inside St. Mercy Hospital, Lisette hadnโ€™t expected to run into Yvette, who seemed lost and despondent. While she asked Valerian to take Horatio for a checkโ€“up, she walked straight towards Yvette.

โ€œYvette, what are you doing here?โ€

Yvette jerked her head up, meeting Lisetteโ€™s gaze. She gripped a document in her hand, which had been crumpled up, her face slightly pale, seemingly in a foul mood.

Lisette caught sight of the documentโ€”a prenatal exam report.

โ€œYouโ€™re pregnant?โ€ she blurted out, then quickly added, โ€œIsnโ€™t that a good thing? Why do you look like the worldโ€™s ending? If anything, this could secure your place in the Baker family.โ€

โ€œI know. Butโ€ฆ I wonโ€™t be able to keep the baby.โ€ Yvetteโ€™s face was sour. โ€œFleur never likes me, and if she finds out that Iโ€™m pregnant, only to lose the baby, sheโ€™ll be furious. And Gideonโ€ฆ if he knew about it, heโ€™d be disappointed too.โ€

She had been ecstatic when she first saw the results. The timing couldnโ€™t have been better. But then the doctor stated that the pregnancy wasnโ€™t viable, and it was only a matter of time before she lost the baby.
