Chapter 223

Lisetteโ€™s eyes suddenly lit up as she looked at Yvette.

โ€œThis isnโ€™t a bad thing at all. If you canโ€™t save the baby, why not take some advantage of it?โ€

โ€œWhat do you mean?โ€ Yvette growled, her expression clouded with gloom. โ€œHow is it not a bad thing? If I lose this baby, my position becomes unstable. How could I possibly turn this into an advantage?โ€

โ€œYouโ€™d be foolish taking all the blame. Youโ€™re about to get married, right? So why not find yourself a scapegoat then? Remember, you losing the baby isnโ€™t due to your health. Someone wants to hurt it. Imagine this on your wedding day, you โ€˜tragicallyโ€™ lose the baby because of someone elseโ€™s actions. Can you guess how people will react? How do you think Gideon and Fleur will feel? Heartbroken for you, furious at the person responsible. Theyโ€™ll rally behind you, and whoever you blame will be ruined.โ€

โ€œYes, youโ€™ve got a point!โ€ Yvette stood up abruptly, grabbing Lisetteโ€™s hands. โ€œLisette, youโ€™re really my dear friend! I donโ€™t know what Iโ€™d do without you.โ€

โ€œYou know I always have your back,โ€ Lisette uttered with a chuckle. โ€œThereโ€™s something I need to handle; Iโ€™ve got to go. Keep your pregnancy a secret for now. The timing has to be perfect for the biggest impact.โ€

Yvette nodded, exhaling deeply. โ€œI got it!โ€

She breathed a sigh of relief, her mood lightening up. If she couldnโ€™t keep this baby, then she would make sure it served a purpose.

โ€œMy baby,โ€ she thought to herself, โ€œyouโ€™re supposed to die to begin with, might as well make the last moment a contribution for mom.โ€

Yvette was in high spirits as she left the hospital. As she exited the building, she brushed past Calliope, who was entering with a medical kit in hand.

Yvetteโ€™s heart lurched. Instinctively, she clutched the prenatal exam report behind her back.

She shot Calliope a few glances and questioned, โ€œWhat are you doing here?โ€

Calliope paused, sweeping a glance at her. โ€œNot that itโ€™s any of your business.โ€

Yvette scoffed, turned and strode away.

Calliope watched her go, her gaze thoughtful. Then she headed toward the top floor of the hospital, where Upton and Baber were staying.

She hadnโ€™t expected to run into Valerian, Horatio, and Lisette as soon as the elevator doors slid open. Her eyes flicked briefly to Horatio, who was seated in a wheelchair.

She wasnโ€™t surprised.

But the three of them, on the other hand, werenโ€™t expecting to see her there at all.

โ€œWhat the hell are you doing here?โ€ Valerian snapped, seemingly quite worked up.

Lisette was momentarily taken aback. โ€œCallie, donโ€™t tell me you came here to gloat? You were right last time. Horatioโ€™s legs really have issues, but heโ€™s still your brother. You donโ€™t have to laugh at him.โ€

Horatioโ€™s brows furrowed as he studied Calliope, his gaze interrogative.

Valerian scoffed. โ€œKnowing that your brotherโ€™s not well, youโ€™re thrilled about this, arenโ€™t you? It must be the highlight of your day.โ€

Calliope said nothing. She simply stared at them, her face impassive.

โ€œThis isnโ€™t somewhere you should be. Whatever youโ€™re planning, forget it!โ€ Valerian demanded, his tone unpleasant.

โ€œApologies. I donโ€™t have the time to jibe.โ€ Calliope cast an indifferent glance at Horatio in the wheelchair. She had worried about him, cared for him and exerted herself to find a cure, conducting endless research just to figure out a solution.

Now, looking at him, she felt sheโ€™d never been this calm.

โ€œIโ€™m not here for you.โ€

After that, Calliope headed forwards.
