Chapter 233
โYou all seem to forget, Iโve cut ties with your family,โ Calliopeโs voice was cool, detached. โSo, your problems are none of my concern.โ
โCalliope, do you really think youโll do just fine without us? What, you donโt think youโll ever come crawling back?โ Ulysses growled. โIโm giving you a chance here. If you help Horatio, weโll remember it.โ
โYou all certainly stick together, Iโll give you that. But letโs not pretend youโre the kind of people who repay kindness. A bunch of ungrateful leeches, so why donโt you just get out of my way?โ
Her gaze locked onto Valerian, and her lips curved into a cold smile. โIsnโt that right, Valerian?โ
His jaw tightened at the accusation. He knew exactly what she meant.
She had saved his life, and yet, somehow, Lisette had swooped in and taken the credit.
Valerianโs expression darkened at the revelation, but he refused to admit guilt.
โHoratio always treated you well. Are you really okay with watching him spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair?โ Valerian said. โObviously, you could just ask Upton for the information. Youโre close with him. He trusts you enough to leave his kid in your care. Iโm sure heโd tell you if you asked.โ
Calliope glanced at them indifferently. โEven if he would tell me, why would I bother asking? If you want answers, go ask him yourself.โ
โYou think weโd be talking with you if we could just ask him directly?โ Ulysses snapped. โGod, Calliope, when did you turn into such a pain? You werenโt like this when we were kids!โ
โAnd do you remember how you werenโt like this either?โ She looked at him with amusement. If they hadnโt once treated her well when they were younger, maybe she wouldnโt have spent years foolishly believing they might return to the way they used to be.
She had wanted their love so badly, and in the end, it had cost her everything.
Not this time.
She swore to distance herself from them. Since they treated Lisette as their own sister and dismissed her, then let it be.
โYou guys are the worst!โ Baber exclaimed, clearly fed up. โIf you keep this up, Iโll have my daddy deal with you, and trust me, when that happens, youโll be bankrupt before you know it!โ
Just as Baber finished speaking, a sudden cry rang out from ahead.
โIs there a doctor here?!โ
โCall an ambulance, now!โ
โHelp! Someone, please!โ
Calliope and Baber exchanged glances at the sounds.
The commotion had already drawn a crowd.
Baber grabbed Calliopeโs hand and said, โLetโs go see whatโs happening!โ
It was chaos, with some people rushing toward the source of the cries, including Calliope and Baber.
With the frenzy, Ulysses and the others didnโt have a chance to stop Calliope and Baber before they were swept into the crowd, leaving them with no choice but to follow.
โWhat a waste of all the years we were good to her!โ Ulysses muttered angrily. โHoratio needs her help, and this is how she treats us?โ
โExactly, all she had to do was ask Upton. Itโs not like we were asking much.โ
Lisette sighed, โCallie must still resent me. Thatโs why sheโs acting this way. Iโm sorry, Horatio. This is all my fault.โ
โLisette, donโt be silly. Why apologize? This isnโt your fault,โ Valerian said. โSheโs the one whoโs heartless.โ
