Chapter 233

โ€œYou all seem to forget, Iโ€™ve cut ties with your family,โ€ Calliopeโ€™s voice was cool, detached. โ€œSo, your problems are none of my concern.โ€

โ€œCalliope, do you really think youโ€™ll do just fine without us? What, you donโ€™t think youโ€™ll ever come crawling back?โ€ Ulysses growled. โ€œIโ€™m giving you a chance here. If you help Horatio, weโ€™ll remember it.โ€

โ€œYou all certainly stick together, Iโ€™ll give you that. But letโ€™s not pretend youโ€™re the kind of people who repay kindness. A bunch of ungrateful leeches, so why donโ€™t you just get out of my way?โ€

Her gaze locked onto Valerian, and her lips curved into a cold smile. โ€œIsnโ€™t that right, Valerian?โ€

His jaw tightened at the accusation. He knew exactly what she meant.

She had saved his life, and yet, somehow, Lisette had swooped in and taken the credit.

Valerianโ€™s expression darkened at the revelation, but he refused to admit guilt.

โ€œHoratio always treated you well. Are you really okay with watching him spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair?โ€ Valerian said. โ€œObviously, you could just ask Upton for the information. Youโ€™re close with him. He trusts you enough to leave his kid in your care. Iโ€™m sure heโ€™d tell you if you asked.โ€

Calliope glanced at them indifferently. โ€œEven if he would tell me, why would I bother asking? If you want answers, go ask him yourself.โ€

โ€œYou think weโ€™d be talking with you if we could just ask him directly?โ€ Ulysses snapped. โ€œGod, Calliope, when did you turn into such a pain? You werenโ€™t like this when we were kids!โ€

โ€œAnd do you remember how you werenโ€™t like this either?โ€ She looked at him with amusement. If they hadnโ€™t once treated her well when they were younger, maybe she wouldnโ€™t have spent years foolishly believing they might return to the way they used to be.

She had wanted their love so badly, and in the end, it had cost her everything.

Not this time.

She swore to distance herself from them. Since they treated Lisette as their own sister and dismissed her, then let it be.

โ€œYou guys are the worst!โ€ Baber exclaimed, clearly fed up. โ€œIf you keep this up, Iโ€™ll have my daddy deal with you, and trust me, when that happens, youโ€™ll be bankrupt before you know it!โ€

Just as Baber finished speaking, a sudden cry rang out from ahead.

โ€œIs there a doctor here?!โ€

โ€œCall an ambulance, now!โ€

โ€œHelp! Someone, please!โ€

Calliope and Baber exchanged glances at the sounds.

The commotion had already drawn a crowd.

Baber grabbed Calliopeโ€™s hand and said, โ€œLetโ€™s go see whatโ€™s happening!โ€

It was chaos, with some people rushing toward the source of the cries, including Calliope and Baber.

With the frenzy, Ulysses and the others didnโ€™t have a chance to stop Calliope and Baber before they were swept into the crowd, leaving them with no choice but to follow.

โ€œWhat a waste of all the years we were good to her!โ€ Ulysses muttered angrily. โ€œHoratio needs her help, and this is how she treats us?โ€

โ€œExactly, all she had to do was ask Upton. Itโ€™s not like we were asking much.โ€

Lisette sighed, โ€œCallie must still resent me. Thatโ€™s why sheโ€™s acting this way. Iโ€™m sorry, Horatio. This is all my fault.โ€

โ€œLisette, donโ€™t be silly. Why apologize? This isnโ€™t your fault,โ€ Valerian said. โ€œSheโ€™s the one whoโ€™s heartless.โ€
