Chapter 234
โYeah! Calliope is completely heartless!โ they muttered as they chased after Calliope and Baber.
Before long, Calliope and Baber had reached the crowd gathered ahead. They squeezed their way to the front, flanked closely by four bodyguards who kept them securely in the middle.
โWhatโs going on, Miss?โ Baber looked toward the small group of people huddled around someone on the ground. He grabbed the nearest person for information.
Calliope also turned her attention to the girl standing beside them.
โI think someone passed out while on one of the rides. He just collapsed and hit the ground. Heโs been unconscious ever since, and thereโs no doctor around. No one knows how bad it is!โ
โYeah, it looked like a nasty fall. His head must have some damages!โ
โIโm afraid he might not hold it!โ A few onlookers nearby buzzed with presumption.
โThat bad?โ Baberโs brows knitted together as he glanced up at Calliope.
Calliope scanned the scene โ no paramedics, no trained medical professionals in sight. Her grandfather had always told her that knowledge wasnโt meant to be hoarded; it had to be used to help people.
At the thought of it, Calliope took a deep breath. She entrusted Baber to the bodyguards. โWatch Baber for me. Iโm going over there.โ
โMs. Jewell, are you sure?โ They hadnโt expected Calliope would get herself involved.
One of them caught her by the arm. โBetter keep out of it. If something goes wrong, people might blame you.โ
Calliopeโs voice was calm. โI canโt just stand here and do nothing.โ
No doctor had stepped up yet, and the ambulance was bound to take a while. She had to at least try.
Shrugging off the bodyguardโs grip, she gave some reminders about taking care of Baber before stepping forward.
โWhereโs she going?โ
Ulysses and his group had finally pushed their way through the crowd, only to see Calliope handing Baber over to the bodyguards before heading toward the injured person.
Valerian and the rest frowned.
โSheโs not actually thinking about helping, is she?โ
Lisette feigned unease. โShe doesnโt have any real skills. What if she just makes things worse? And if something bad happens, they might blame her!โ
โExactly! She has nothing up her sleeve. Why does she get involved?โ Valerian said, his tone disgruntled. โLook at all these people just watching. She wonโt even lift a finger when it comes to helping Horatio, but sheโs all eager to play hero now?โ
By now, they had reached the front of the crowd.
โCalliope!โ Ulysses called out. โWhat do you think youโre doing?โ
But Calliope didnโt look back. She had already reached the unconscious man.
โLet me take a look; I know a bit about medicine,โ she told the surrounding crowd.
โAre you a doctor? Please check on him! Please help my boyfriend! He hit his head and just passed out. I donโt know what to do!โ a girl, who had been cradling his head, pleaded with red eyes.
โAlright, everyone, step back.โ As Calliope spoke, she stepped forward and knelt beside the man, checking his pulse.
โWhat the hell is she doing?โ Valerian furrowed his brows. โChecking pulses? What skills does she have? Such a phony.โ
