Chapter 244
A hand was everything. And just like that, Upton had shattered Lisetteโs wrist. That was too much, too cruel.
But they valued their own skin more than their pride, and this was Upton they were dealing with. A man of his stature? He could wipe the Jewell family off the face of the earth with a snap of his fingers. So, instead of blaming him, they turned their fury toward Calliope.
โIf you dare lay a finger on Baber again,โ Upton murmured, eyes narrowing as he looked at Lisette, โIโll ensure you lose more than just a hand.โ
Lisette gritted her teeth, clutching her mangled wrist, her face drained of all color. The pain was unbearable. The hatred in her eyes was unmistakable, but she didnโt dare look directly at Upton.
โIf it werenโt for Callieโs connection to you, I wouldnโt have been this merciful,โ Upton continued coldly. โYou should be thanking her.โ
His gaze swept over the group. โNow get lost.โ
No one hesitated. In a flurry of movement, the brothers grabbed Lisette and rushed her out to surgery.
Outside the operating room, Horatio, Ulysses, and Valerian stood in tense silence, their anger simmering just beneath the surface.
โCalliope is not our sister anymore,โ Ulysses declared, voice tight with fury. โI swear Iโll make her pay for what she did to Lisette.โ
โShe just stood there and watched,โ Horatio muttered, brows furrowed in disbelief. โSheโs not the Callie we grew up with.โ
โShe doesnโt care about any of us, her blood brothers. So why would she care about Lisette?โ Valerian scoffed, bitterness lacing his words. โSheโs too busy clinging to Silas, acting like sheโs something special.โ
โShe really thinks Silas will always back her?โ Ulysses sneered. โAnd Upton? Heโll return to Sea City sooner or later. This isnโt over.โ
Just then, Zelda stormed into the hospital, her heels clicking sharply against the floor.
โI just got the call! What the hell happened to Lisette?โ she demanded, looking at her three sons with wide, frantic eyes.
โWho else? That damn Calliope,โ Valerian snapped.
โWhat did she do this time?โ Zeldaโs eyes narrowed dangerously.
โSheโs the reason Lisette had a broken wrist!โ Ulysses said, teeth clenched. โThat witch didnโt lift a finger to help. Calliope knew where the Miracle Doctor was. She knew how to save Horatio. But she chose to do nothing. She couldโve stopped Lisette from getting hurt, but she just stood there and watched. She wanted to see us suffer.โ
His voice dropped to a venomous whisper. โCalliope really is a curse, a damn plague on our family.โ
Zeldaโs face twisted with fury. โWhere is that disgrace? Iโll handle her myself.โ
Valerian caught her wrist before she could storm off. โNot now, Mom. Sheโs in Uptonโs sonโs hospital room. Silas is there too.โ He swallowed his frustration. โWe wait. Weโll deal with her when theyโre not around.โ
Zelda exhaled sharply, shaking with rage. โFine.โ
She turned back to the operating room, her eyes filled with worry. โGod, I hope they can fix Lisetteโs hand. Sheโs brilliant and gifted. Her hands are everything.โ
The three brothers shared the same anxious expression.
Meanwhile, Calliope had no idea what was happening outside the surgery room. She was too busy laughing with Baber, playing like two carefree kids.
Silas and Upton sat nearby, their conversation smooth and unhurried, discussing business. Now and then, their gazes drifted toward Calliope and Baber.
Two powerful men, exuding dominance and controlโyet when they looked at the lady and the boy, their eyes softened with something almost indulgent.
