Chapter 245
โCallieโs great. Youโve got good taste.โ Upton glanced at Calliope and Baber before turning his gaze back to Silas. โI hope you treat her well. Sheโs even more extraordinary than you realize.โ
โI know,โ Silas said, his face softening with adoration. A small smile played on his lips. โHaving her is the best thing that ever happened to me.โ
Upton studied him for a moment before breaking into a chuckle.
โNever thought sheโd end up marrying you. I never had much faith in Gideon, to be honest. But knowing sheโs with you? That puts me at ease.โ
Silas narrowed his eyes slightly. โYou and Callie, you two are close?โ
Upton shrugged. โSheโs like a little sister to me.โ
He exhaled and looked away for a second before continuing. โYou know I donโt have much family. Baberโs mother passed away, and heโs the most important person in my life. Callie gave him a second chance. Sheโs helped me more times than I can count. So, yeah, aside from Baber, sheโs the most important person to me. I care about Callie. A lot.โ
Then, his voice dropped into something more serious. โSo, treat Callie right. Iโll be standing in her corner if she ever gets hurt or feels wronged, even if itโs you.โ
A smirk curled at the edge of his lips. โCallieโs so-called family failed her, but thatโs fine. I can make up for a million of them.โ
Silas held Uptonโs gaze, then gave a firm nod. โI will.โ
They chatted longer before Silasโ phone buzzed. It was about work. He sighed, excused himself with a quick kiss on Calliopeโs cheek, and left.
Since Calliope had no pressing matters to attend to, she stayed behind to keep Baber company.
Upton had planned to leave for work but pushed everything aside. He wouldnโt go anywhere while Baber was recovering.
โWhat happened to Baber is partly my fault,โ Calliope murmured.
Upton frowned. โHowโs that?โ
โLisette was after me. Baber just got caught in the crossfire.โ
Uptonโs jaw tightened, his eyes darkening. โDonโt blame yourself. That woman is pure poison. She even dared to mess with my son.โ He exhaled sharply. โShe wonโt get another chance.โ
โShe wouldnโt dare,โ Calliope said, shaking her head.
Lisette was rotten, sure. But she was also a coward.
Upton tilted his head. โMind if I make things difficult for the Jewell family?โ
Calliope scoffed and shrugged. โI left that family a long time ago. Do whatever you want.โ
Upton smirked, his deep eyes gleaming with something dangerous. โGood.โ
No one messed with his son and walked away unscathed.
By lunchtime, the three of them ordered takeout โ burgers, fries, and milkshakes.
Later in the afternoon, Calliope finally decided to head home.
Baber, however, was still sulking. His perfect day at the amusement park got ruined, and he wasnโt about to let it slide.
As soon as Calliope walked out the door, Baberโs little brain started scheming, thinking of revenge on Calliope. The moment she was gone, he tried sneaking out.
โAnd where do you think youโre going?โ A deep, knowing voice cut through the air. Upton didnโt even look up from the couch.
Baber flashed an innocent smile. โJust going to walk Callie out!โ
One raised brow from Upton. โYou sure about that? Youโre not planning something else?โ
Baber hesitated. Then, realizing heโd got caught, he dropped the act.
Upton smirked. โRevenge is fine. But make sure you stay safe. Take a few of the bodyguards with you.โ
Baberโs face lit up. โThanks, Dad!โ
A few minutes later, the little mastermind picked a handful of bodyguards, marched straight to the front desk, and sweet-talked his way into getting Lisetteโs hospital room number.
Then, with all the stealth of a mischievous little fox, he slipped away to visit her.
