Chapter 250

โ€œWhat the hell?โ€

โ€œDid you tell that little brat to go after Lisette?โ€ Zelda seethed, her teeth clenched in barely restrained fury.

โ€œBecause of you, Lisetteโ€™s arm will never be the same! Calliope, how could you be so cruel?โ€

Calliope let out a soft chuckle, tilting her head slightly.

โ€œWatch your mouth, Zelda. Who are you calling a โ€˜little bratโ€™? Or do you prefer to be called an โ€˜old hagโ€™?โ€

โ€œCalliope! Show some respect. Sheโ€™s your mother!โ€ Valerian snapped, his face dark with anger.

โ€œMy mother?โ€ Calliope arched a brow, lips curling into a smirk. โ€œNo, I donโ€™t have a mother.โ€

She crossed her arms and leaned back lazily against the counter.

โ€œAnd donโ€™t start the whole โ€˜Lisette did nothing wrongโ€™ act. She brought this on herself. Lisette had the brilliant idea to mess with Baber, the Thorne familyโ€™s golden boy, the one no one in this city dares to cross. She chose to poke the bear. Losing just an arm? She got off easy.โ€

โ€œThat was assault! Are you seriously suggesting she should just take it? What, do you want her thrown in jail for this?โ€

Calliope shrugged. โ€œBut she wonโ€™t walk out with a spotless reputation if she lands in prison. Thatโ€™s for sure.โ€

Zelda yanked her hand back, glaring. โ€œYou and Upton are close. And youโ€™re tight with that little rat, too. Why the hell would you do this to Lisette?โ€

Calliope gave Zelda an unreadable look. โ€œYou said it yourself. Iโ€™m close to them. Of course, I have their backs. Lisette screwed up, and now youโ€™re trying to make it my problem? Please. Maybe you should worry about your company instead of finding fault with me. Did you think Upton would let this go so easily?โ€

Zeldaโ€™s stomach twisted at Calliopeโ€™s words. She darted a glance at Valerian, silently asking if there was any truth to what she had heard.

Valerian didnโ€™t know for sure but had heard plenty of stories about Uptonโ€™s fierce devotion to his son. Baber wasnโ€™t some spoiled rich kid. He was Uptonโ€™s pride and joy, the only thing left to him by the woman he had loved.

And if Upton decided to hold a grudge against the Jewell family over this? That would be a disaster.

โ€œCalliope, is this about the company shares? Are you trying to ruin us because we didnโ€™t give you any shares?โ€

He knew how much sway Calliope held with Upton. She could only whisper a few words and turn the tide against them.

Calliope might be pulling the strings if Upton decided to crash the Jewell familyโ€™s business. Maybe it was her real plan all along. Sheโ€™d ensure no one else could have the Jewell Group if she couldnโ€™t take it herself.

โ€œIf thatโ€™s what you think, youโ€™re delusional,โ€ Calliope said smoothly.

Zelda bristled. โ€œYou wonโ€™t get a single share of this company! Not one!โ€

Calliope didnโ€™t even blink. โ€œSuit yourself. But maybe focus on keeping your company afloat first. If you donโ€™t, you will have nothing left to give.โ€

Zeldaโ€™s face turned red with fury. โ€œYouโ€“you just want the company, donโ€™t you?โ€

Calliopeโ€™s lips curled into a slow, almost lazy smile. โ€œYou got me. Five percent. Take it or leave it.โ€

Zelda clutched her chest as if trying to steady her racing heart. โ€œYouโ€™re insane! I would rather lose everything than give you a single cent!โ€

Valerian let out a bitter laugh, shaking his head in disappointment. โ€œCalliope, I canโ€™t believe you. Youโ€™re taking advantage of this situation, huh? Youโ€™re nothing like our family. You donโ€™t belong in the Jewell family.โ€
