Chapter 265

โ€œWow, itโ€™s the legendary chess master of Capitalton!โ€

โ€œGoodness, isnโ€™t that Ronin Jordan? Heโ€™s a real whiz at chess, can beat just about anyone!โ€

โ€œNobody stands a chance against him. Looks like Yara is determined to embarrass Calliope.โ€

โ€œCalliope might be in trouble this time. I doubt sheโ€™s that good!โ€

โ€œRoninโ€™s remarkable, and itโ€™s impressive that Yara could get him here!โ€

โ€œProbably because she has some business ties with the Jordan family. Roninโ€™s a decent guy. He might even like Yara!โ€

As the chatter continued, Calliope finally laid eyes on Ronin. A flicker of surprise crossed her face when she spotted him.

โ€œMs. Jewell, let me introduce you to Mr. Ronin Jordan here. You might have heard of him. The Jordan family of Capitalton is quite renowned. Heโ€™s the patriarch of the family,โ€ Yara made the introductions.

โ€œNo need for that, Yara. Callie and I go way back,โ€ Ronin chuckled. โ€œAre you suggesting I play a game with her?โ€

โ€œYou two know each other?โ€ Yara was stunned, not expecting this connection.

โ€œKnow each other? Iโ€™ve known Callie since she was yay high,โ€ Ronin gestured, indicating a small child.

Ronin had known Calliope since she was a little girl. Her grandfather and Ronin were good friends, so they met frequently. Her grandfather always brought her along, so she grew up knowing Ronin well.

Not just knowing, she often played chess with him. He was the one who taught her the game in the first place.

Calliope hadnโ€™t expected Yara to invite Ronin.

โ€œRonin taught me how to play chess,โ€ Calliope said.

โ€œThough I taught her, sheโ€™s surpassed the master,โ€ Ronin shook his head with a smile. โ€œYara, I might have been too cocky saying Iโ€™d surely win. This time, I canโ€™t guarantee victory. My opponentโ€™s too skilled!โ€

The onlookers were astonished by the conversation.

โ€œRoninโ€™s being modest!โ€

โ€œExactly. Ronin is the president of the Capitalton Chess Association. Thereโ€™s no way heโ€™d lose to a young girl!โ€

โ€œEveryone knows Roninโ€™s skill. I canโ€™t believe heโ€™d lose!โ€

โ€œCalliopeโ€™s so young. She canโ€™t be that formidable, can she?โ€

โ€œBut who wouldโ€™ve thought Calliope knew Ronin since childhood? And Ronin seems quite fond of her!โ€

โ€œSmall world!โ€

After a brief chat with Ronin, Yaraโ€™s team had the chessboard ready. The two sat down, surrounded by curious spectators.

Given the crowd, Yara even arranged for someone to record the match and broadcast it on a screen in the hall.

Ronin took the black pieces, shaking his head with a smile. โ€œCallie already beat me when she was ten. Now, sheโ€™s even better. Iโ€™m not too confident.โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t worry. No pressure. Itโ€™s just a friendly game, after all. Winning isnโ€™t everything.โ€

Yara stood by Ronin with a smile. She hadnโ€™t expected Calliope to be a chess player. When Silas mentioned Calliope was multi-talented, she was skeptical. But now, she was starting to believe it.
