Chapter 279
The three Jewell brothers were glued to their screens, watching the live stream unfold. At first, they thought Calliope was out of her mind. She should have been at the doorstep, ready to bolt if things went south with the alligators. Instead, she was strolling right into danger, getting way too close for comfort.
Just looking at her, they figured she was doomed. Her outfit screamed recklessness, and they were sure she was heading for disaster. But to their shock, Calliope emerged unscathed, not even a drop of water on her.
The alligators did attack her, but they ended up in a sorry state, not her. She treated them like soccer balls, kicking them around and even sending a few flying.
Ulysses rubbed his eyes, convinced something was wrong with his vision. How could Calliope be that strong? Was she some kind of superhero?
โDid I just imagine that?โ he asked, bewildered.
โHoratio, Valerian, does she have that much strength?โ
The alligators werenโt tiny; they were massive. Any ordinary guy, even a martial artist, would struggle with so many alligators. But Calliope? She took them down single-handedly. Was she the crazy one, or were they?
โYou didnโt imagine it. I saw it too,โ Valerian replied after some silence, his mind confused. He never thought Calliope had that kind of power.
Horatio frowned, puzzled. โCallie never mentioned she was that strong!โ
โAnd she never told us she knew Upton, either!โ Valerian scoffed. โIt seems like sheโs been keeping a lot from us, her brothers.โ
โShe never considered us her brothers from her heart,โ Ulysses said, narrowing his eyes. โSo what if sheโs strong? Itโs not like sheโs competing in the Olympics. Whatโs strength worth, anyway?โ
โExactly. Even if Calliope can play the banjo or chess or sheโs strong, it doesnโt matter. She canโt handle simple company affairs,โ Valerian sneered, his surprise quickly turning to disdain.
โYeah. Calliopeโs skills are pretty useless,โ Horatio agreed with a nod.
The brothers shook their heads, convinced Calliope couldnโt hold a candle to their beloved Lisette. Lisette might not have super strength, but she excelled at running the company and had impeccable social skills. She was a well-known socialite in Capitalton, adored by many.
On the other hand, many people disliked Calliope. Even her long-time boyfriend, Gideon, had chosen Yvette over her. It was proof enough that Calliope wasnโt good enough.
โHoratio, Valerian, people are blasting us online! Theyโre saying we shouldnโt talk down on Calliope, saying sheโs amazing!โ Ulysses fumed as he scrolled through his phone.
โSheโs not even part of the Jewell family anymore, yet sheโs still causing us trouble!โ
โIf sheโs so great, she should stop using the Ms. Jewell name out there!โ Valerian grumbled, furrowing his brow. โNo worries. Weโll clear things up. Her so-called abilities are pointless. Sheโs a nobody with no degree, no decent job. She canโt even manage a company. Weโre not wrong.โ
โRight, she has no useful skills.โ
โWhat good is being strong if sheโs not going to wrestle bears?โ Ulysses chuckled. โShe doesnโt help with anything at home. It was Lisette who helped me land that role back in the day. Calliope doesnโt have Lisetteโs connections, smarts, or business acumen. She doesnโt even have Lisetteโs temperament.โ
