Chapter 302
Valerian turned around, just realizing Lisette hadnโt come in. She was stuck at the doorway, blocked by Snowy, their large, fluffy pet.
โCalliope, whatโs going on?โ Valerian snapped, clearly frustrated.
โOh, itโs just that she reeks of urine, and Snowy doesnโt like it,โ Calliope shrugged. โWhat can I do? Snowy has a sensitive nose.โ
โDid you do this on purpose?โ Valerianโs eyes bore into Calliope, filled with confusion and anger.
โNot at all,โ Calliope replied casually. โSnowy doesnโt like strong smells. And with her urine smelling so bad, I think sheโs probably dehydrated or something. Snowy is not a fan.โ
โCanโt you guys smell it? Itโs that strong,โ Calliope said, glancing at Lisette. โHow about you wait outside for a bit? If you insist on coming in, I canโt guarantee Snowy wonโt biteโฆโ
โAfter all, Snowy is a tiger, and if it nips, I canโt say whether it would be a nip or something worse,โ Calliope said lazily, sitting back on the couch with a relaxed air.
Million, the wolf lounging on the carpet nearby, turned its head to see what the commotion was about. It yawned before settling back down, uninterested.
Calliope looked at Monty and the others with a tilted head. โSo, why are you guys here? If I remember correctly, we signed the papers and had nothing to do with each other, right? Whatever you want to call it, family ties or not, whatโs done is done. Are you all going back on your word now?โ
โCallie, I know you didnโt mean what you said,โ Monty hurried to say. โI missed you, so I came to see you. Your brothers miss you, too!โ
โYou blocked us all, so we had no other way to reach you but this,โ Monty glanced at Valerian. โI know youโre mad at us, and weโre here to apologize.โ
Calliope leaned forward, intrigued. โOh, you know Iโm mad at you?โ
She rested her arms on the cushions, leaning closer to Monty. โSo, what exactly am I mad about? Why would I even be mad at you?โ
โIsnโt it because we treated Lisette well, and sheโs just better than you, and you got jealous?โ Ulysses interjected, annoyance lacing his tone. โCalliope, even though itโs not really our fault, Dad sent us here to apologize, so here we are.โ
โWow, you donโt sound like youโre here to apologize. You sound more like youโre here to collect a debt,โ Calliope retorted, unfazed. โSorry to burst your bubble, but youโre mistaken. Iโm not mad.โ
โWhy would I waste my energy being mad at strangers? I have better things to do. I donโt have the time or patience to fuss over irrelevant people,โ she said, her tone dismissive.
Ulyssesโ face clouded over, his expression darkening. Horatio and Valerian didnโt look much better, their faces paling slightly.
Calliopeโs demeanor was indifferent. She sat there, doing nothing in particular, yet exuding an air of superiority. It was as if she were a tier above them, unreachable.
A creeping unease settled in, like ants crawling over their hearts, leaving a prickling anxiety in their wake. Monty shifted uneasily. โCallie, I know we messed up. We shouldโve been more on your side!โ
