Chapter 303

โ€œI know I messed up, and Iโ€™m here to apologize!โ€ Monty flashed a nervous smile at Calliope. โ€œI know youโ€™ve been eyeing the shares in the company. How about I give you some?โ€

At the mention of shares, Calliope looked up, surprise flickering across her face. โ€œYouโ€™re willing to give me shares? How much? Twenty percent?โ€

Monty froze at her bold request. Twenty percent? That was a hefty chunk he couldnโ€™t fathom parting with. After all, Calliope hadnโ€™t contributed much to the company. Even though she was his flesh and blood, she hadnโ€™t even matched the contributions of their adopted daughter. How could he justify such a large share?

โ€œUh, Callie, twenty is a bit steep. How about three percent?โ€ he ventured cautiously.

โ€œDo you realize,โ€ Calliope said, fixing Monty with a steady gaze, โ€œthat this kind of bargaining could get you punched in the face? Would you take thirty if you were selling something for two hundred dollars?โ€

Monty squirmed. โ€œShares arenโ€™t like buying a shirt.โ€

โ€œStill doesnโ€™t work for me,โ€ Calliope shrugged. โ€œBesides, youโ€™re here all apologetic, offering shares. Youโ€™ve got some ulterior motive, huh? Whatโ€™s the catch?โ€

Monty hadnโ€™t expected Calliope to be so sharp. He thought she would be easy to sway, maybe even naive. The shares were something he didnโ€™t even plan on giving, considering her lack of involvement in the business. But she saw right through him, understanding they needed her for something important.

โ€œCallie, the companyโ€™s in trouble,โ€ Monty admitted. โ€œLisette scared the Thorne familyโ€™s young heir, and now theyโ€™re giving us grief. But thatโ€™s not even the worst of it. One of our key clients, Mr. Lopez, insists on meeting you, saying heโ€™s pulling out of our deal if you donโ€™t show.โ€

โ€œAnd losing him is catastrophic for us. Without him, the company could tank!โ€ Monty pleaded. โ€œHis departure spells disaster for us!โ€

โ€œHow is that my problem?โ€ Calliope replied, arching an eyebrow at Monty. โ€œI got booted from the company, and Iโ€™ve left the Jewell family behind. Even if it crumbles, itโ€™s no skin off my nose. Youโ€™re losing a big client. Again, itโ€™s not my problem. It doesnโ€™t affect me at all.โ€

She leaned back casually, resting her chin on her hand. โ€œEven if the Jewell family goes bankrupt, my life remains unchanged. You guys donโ€™t give me dividends or shares.โ€

Monty frowned, trying to reason with her. โ€œThe Jewell family is still your family. Silas might be good to you now, but who knows about the future? You should have a safety net. By helping the Jewell family, youโ€™d secure support for the future.โ€

โ€œAnd donโ€™t underestimate three percent. Itโ€™s more than you think! Callie, all you have to do is show your face. Mr. Lopez hasnโ€™t asked for anything else, just a simple meet and greet.โ€ Montyโ€™s eyes were hopeful, practically begging her.

Calliope shook her head. โ€œShowing up is one thing, but what if he turns out to be a creep? Even if I wanted to, my husband might not be thrilled about it.โ€

As Monty realized Calliope wasnโ€™t budging, he started to panic a little. He glanced at Horatio and the others for support.
