Chapter 355

โ€œItโ€™s all because of that Calliope! I told you, sheโ€™s a jinx, bringing nothing but trouble for us!โ€

Zelda was convinced, almost obsessively so, that Calliope was a harbinger of bad luck.

โ€œIf it werenโ€™t for her, we wouldnโ€™t be in this mess. If we hadnโ€™t taken her in, none of these damn things would have happened!โ€

Her resentment towards Calliope was palpable.

Monty frowned at Zelda, โ€œCould it really be because of her?โ€

Zeldaโ€™s words had planted a seed of doubt in Montyโ€™s mind. Everything did seem to connect back to Calliope. Without her, maybe the company wouldnโ€™t be facing such issues.

Could Calliope really be a jinx?

โ€œI think so too,โ€ Valerian chimed in. โ€œShe claims we treat her badly, but she never actually says anything. Who knows if sheโ€™s been holding a grudge against us all along?โ€

โ€œHonestly, is it so strange for Lisette to be jealous of her? Lisetteโ€™s adopted, of course sheโ€™d feel insecure. And besides, Lisette hasnโ€™t done anything to harm us. Sheโ€™s just got a bit of an attitude towards her, thatโ€™s all!โ€

Horatio sat in his wheelchair, fists clenched, deep in thought.

Zelda let out a bitter laugh, โ€œIf Calliope is such a miracle worker, why hasnโ€™t she helped Horatio? Sheโ€™s hiding her talents because she doesnโ€™t want to help him, doesnโ€™t she? She wants Horatio to be stuck in that wheelchair forever! Everything thatโ€™s gone wrong for us is her fault.โ€

Zelda felt no remorse. The more she thought about it, the stronger her hostility towards Calliope grew. In her mind, Calliope was to blame for everything.

โ€œBut still, we need her to fix this, especially with the company situation,โ€ Monty said, glancing at Horatioโ€™s legs. โ€œShe should fix Horatioโ€™s legs too. We canโ€™t have him in a wheelchair for life, can we?โ€

He looked at the others, โ€œLetโ€™s start by inviting her over for dinner.โ€

โ€œWhat about Lisette?โ€ Zelda asked, frowning. โ€œIsnโ€™t she well-connected? If she asks around, Lisette should be able to come back, right?โ€

Monty replied, โ€œLetโ€™s just get her here first. Be nice to her. Everything depends on her now.โ€

โ€œI canโ€™t,โ€ Zelda said coldly. โ€œI just canโ€™t stand her!โ€

โ€œDo you want the company to recover? Do you want Lisette back?โ€ Monty snapped at her. โ€œWithout her help, the company will go under. Do you think life will be any better if that happens?โ€

โ€œLisette will make things better for us,โ€ Zelda insisted stubbornly.

Monty sighed.

โ€œLetโ€™s invite her,โ€ Valerian suggested. โ€œWe werenโ€™t entirely in the right back then either. Letโ€™s apologize.โ€

Horatio nodded, โ€œShe canโ€™t hold a grudge over something that happened when she was a kid.โ€

So, not long after Calliope returned home, she got a call from the Jewell family.

Since she had blocked everyoneโ€™s number, Monty used the housekeeperโ€™s phone.

Calliope answered calmly, listening to Montyโ€™s plea before agreeing to join them for dinner.

As she hung up, she could hear Montyโ€™s audible sigh of relief. He quickly informed the others that she would be coming over for dinner.

โ€œAre you really going?โ€ Silas asked softly, โ€œYou know, you donโ€™t have to if you donโ€™t want to.โ€

Please let us know if you find any errors, so we can fix them.
