Chapter 376

Yvette gritted her teeth, casting a sideways glance toward Calliope. What on earth was she doing here? Seeing Calliope always put Yvette in a foul mood. She couldnโ€™t stand her.

And then there was Gideon. Every time he laid eyes on Calliope, that uneasy feeling crept up on Yvette, like a storm cloud rolling in. She always had this nagging suspicion that Gideon still had feelings for Calliope.

โ€œGideon, Calliope is your uncleโ€™s wife, Yvetteโ€™s right.โ€ Sensing the tension in the air, Fleur tried to keep things under control.

Her son seemed more focused on Calliope than Yvette, which wouldnโ€™t do. The wedding had to go off without a hitch this time. If anything went wrong, their family would be the laughingstock of the entire town.

Fleur didnโ€™t particularly like Yvette, but they had sent out the wedding invitations. Any scandal now would only fuel the gossip mill about Gideonโ€™s supposed issues.

โ€œDidnโ€™t you hear them?โ€ Calliope said, looking straight at Gideon with a smirk. โ€œShow some respect!โ€

โ€œAunt Callie,โ€ Gideon ground out, his jaw clenched tight, as if forcing those words was like pulling teeth.

โ€œThatโ€™s it,โ€ Calliope chuckled, playing the part of the elder with ease. โ€œNow, how are the wedding plans coming along?โ€

โ€œWeโ€™ve got the dress sorted and the photos done. Everythingโ€™s going smoothly,โ€ Yvette said while raising her hand triumphantly. โ€œGideon had our rings custom-made. I adoreโ€ฆโ€

Calliope glanced at Yvette, her voice dripping with nonchalance. โ€œI wasnโ€™t asking about the rings. How about the guest list and the officiant? Is everything else on track?โ€ Then she gave Yvette a knowing smile. โ€œRemember, we had a chat about this before. During the wedding, you need to apologize and explain why my wedding got called off.โ€

Yvetteโ€™s face went pale. The thought of Calliope bringing up that fiasco at her wedding was mortifying. It would mean admitting she was the reason for the cancellation. Sheโ€™d hoped Calliope had forgotten, but obviously not.

That must be deliberate. Calliope must still have feelings for Gideon to be doing this, right?

Fleur glared at Yvette and beckoned her over. โ€œCome here. I have something to discuss with you.โ€

Yvette hesitated, feeling Fleurโ€™s scrutinizing gaze on her. She glanced at Gideon for support, but his eyes were locked on Calliope, oblivious to her silent plea.

โ€œAre you waiting for an invitation?โ€ Fleur called back, irritation evident in her voice.

โ€œNo, Fleur,โ€ Yvette stammered, hurrying after her.

Gideon stepped closer to Calliope, his voice softening. โ€œAunt Callie, can we talk in private? Thereโ€™s something I need to say.โ€

โ€œSorry. Whatever you need to say, you can say it here. My husband, your Uncle, gets jealous easily!โ€ Calliope declared, popping an orange slice into her mouth without looking up.

โ€œBut Uncle Silas is not even here!โ€ Gideon protested, his brow furrowing.

โ€œIt doesnโ€™t matter whether heโ€™s here. He doesnโ€™t like me talking to you, so Iโ€™d rather not,โ€ Calliope said serenely. โ€œPlease keep your distance. I donโ€™t want my husband getting jealous!โ€
