Chapter 378
Calliope was speechless. She finally glanced up at Gideon. โHey, cut it out. Donโt be so sneaky about this. Whether you want to get married or not is your business. Donโt pin this on me. Iโm not taking the blame!โ
Gideon felt a jolt of excitement seeing her finally looking at him. He stood up and walked toward Calliope.
โCallie, seriously, I would do anything for you. Just say the word! I can call off the wedding with Yvette!โ
โJust say the word! I really messed up. Youโre the one I want to marry, the one I want by my side!โ
His eyes were filled with longing as he closed the distance between them.
Calliopeโs lips twitched slightly, and as he got uncomfortably close, she suddenly raised her phone.
From the speaker, a cold, steely voice cut through the air.
โRegret it? You want to marry my wife? You think if she tells you not to get married, you wonโt?โ
Silasโs icy face appeared on the phone screen, causing Gideon to stumble backward and fall to the floor. He stared in disbelief at Silas on the screen.
โUncle Silasโฆ uhโฆโ He swallowed hard, his Adamโs apple bobbing.
Calliope waved the phone slightly. โSilas just called to check in. You pulled this stunt right on cue, and Iโm not going to cover for you.โ
Gideonโs eyes darted nervously back to Silas. Sitting on the floor, he seemed to gather a monumental amount of courage.
โUncle Silas, you married Callie for the Baker familyโs reputation, right? You never really loved her, did you? She was my girl first. How could you possibly have feelings for your nephewโs girl? I finally understand my heart. Just give Callie back to me!โ
Gideon stared intently at Silas on the screen, his gaze unwavering.
Silas gave Gideon a look that could freeze fire. โWho told you that?โ
โWhat?โ Gideon blinked in confusion.
โWho said I donโt love her? I didnโt marry her for the Baker familyโs reputation. My last name is Myers, not Baker. What does the Baker familyโs reputation have to do with me?โ
โI married her because I love her. Do you think Iโd marry someone I donโt love? Do you think I, Silas, care about what others think or the Baker familyโs reputation?โ
โGideon, you let her go and broke her heart. I barely won her over. Do you really think Iโd hand her back to you? Youโre dreaming.โ
โThis wedding of yours, ha, whether you want it or not, itโs happening.โ
Silasโs voice was as cold as a winter morning.
Calliope lowered the phone, turned the camera towards herself, and smiled at Silas.
Silas gave Calliope a few reminders and asked what sheโd like him to bring back from his business trip. After Calliope mentioned a few things, they ended the call.
Gideon sat on the floor, looking lost in thought. After a long silence, he finally looked up at Calliope.
โUncle Silas loves you?โ Gideon stared at her, as if recalling something suddenly. Then he started laughing, a bit wildly. โOh, I see. From the beginning, heโs had his sights set on you.โ
Since the first day Gideon brought Calliope to the Baker familyโs gatherings, Silas seemed to always inquire about her. He rarely visited the old family estate, but whenever Calliope was there, he seemed to show up, even if it was at the last minute.
But when did he start liking her?
A long time ago, perhaps?
