Chapter 387
The night grew deeper, casting a shadow over the countryside. The sky was brooding, heavy clouds hiding the moon, and a brisk wind rustled through the trees, whispering secrets to the night.
Gideonโs car sped through the darkness. Before he knew it, he was at the gates of the Myers Manor.
His car stopped at the entrance. The guard noticed the vehicle had been idling for a while and went over.
Upon recognizing Gideon, the guard inquired, โAh, Mr. Baker, what brings you here? Mr. Myers is away on business, not at home. If you need him, perhaps you should call him.โ
โIโm not here for him,โ Gideon replied, meeting the guardโs gaze with determination. โIโm here to see Calliope.โ
โYou wish to see Mrs. Myers?โ The guardโs gaze turned cautious, eyeing Gideon warily. โMr. Baker, isnโt it a bit late for a visit? It hardly seems appropriate.โ
โLet me in,โ Gideon demanded, his voice cold.
โIโm afraid I canโt do that,โ the guard said, frowning. โMr. Myers instructed us to ensure Mrs. Myersโs safety in his absence. I canโt let you in.โ
โAnd what if she wants to see me?โ Gideon challenged.
โShe wouldnโt see you at this hour,โ the guard insisted firmly.
โShe will,โ Gideon argued, frustration boiling within him. โShe still loves me. She always has. Sheโs been angry, but itโs time. She should come back.โ
Gideon tugged at his tie, pacing anxiously, his eyes fixed on the manor. He needed to get inside. He needed to see Calliope.
All he required was a single word from her โ just one word telling him not to go through with his wedding โ and heโd abandon everything for her. Heโd risk it all.
โMr. Baker, have you been drinking?โ the guard asked, irritation seeping into his voice. โIf you keep this up, Iโll have to call for backup to escort you away. Itโs inappropriate to see Mrs. Myers at this time.โ
โWhat gives you the right to dictate terms to me?โ Gideon retorted sharply. โSilas isnโt here, so whatโs stopping me? Step aside!โ
Gideon pushed past the guard with a forceful shove and dashed toward the Myers Manor.
The guard tried to restrain him, but Gideon was too quick, leaving the guard sprawled on the ground.
โMr. Baker, this isnโt right. Youโll regret this!โ the guard shouted incredulously. โStop now, or Iโll call the security team. You know whatโs at stake here, donโt you?โ
But Gideon was beyond reasoning, charging deeper into the manor as if possessed. Rain began to pour, intensifying his reckless sprint.
Exasperated, the guard hurried back to his post and alerted Damien. After informing Damien, he also called Calliope.
โOkay, Iโve got it. Donโt worry about it,โ Calliope replied before hanging up.
Sheโd just finished her bath, dressed in comfortable pajamas. She stepped out onto the balcony, her phone displaying the manorโs surveillance feed. She watched as Gideon ran, driven by desperation.
Meanwhile, Damien and his team emerged from another building, converging on the garden.
The rain fell harder, umbrellas were unfurled, each a dark bloom under the glow of street lamps.
Damien looked up at Calliope on the balcony, his face resolute. โMrs. Myers.โ
Calliope nodded, her voice calm, โJust follow protocol.โ
