Chapter 388

โ€œYep,โ€ Damien nodded, his gaze steady on the road ahead.

Calliope turned and returned to her room, feeling a swirl of emotions. She dialed Silas on a video call.

A few minutes later, Gideon appeared in the garden, looking like a drowned rat, soaked to the bone from the sudden downpour.

โ€œCallie, Iโ€™m here!โ€

โ€œCallie, Iโ€™ve come to you!โ€

โ€œI know I messed up!โ€

โ€œJust say the word, and I wonโ€™t go through with the wedding. Iโ€™ll marry you, only you!โ€

โ€œUncle Silasโ€™s not around, so you donโ€™t have to worry about him. With me here, you donโ€™t have to be afraid of anything. Just follow your heart!โ€

Gideon shouted desperately toward the lit window of the manor, rain streaming down his face. The night air was chilly, but he seemed oblivious, ignoring Damien and the others as he pleaded with Calliope, his voice echoing through the rain.

โ€œCallie, I know I was wrong. You can hit me or whatever you want!โ€

โ€œJust come out, please!โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t be mad. I know you still love me. You only turned to Uncle Silas because you were upset! You canโ€™t possibly love him!โ€

โ€œYouโ€™ve always loved me, havenโ€™t you? As long as your heartโ€™s with me, Uncle Silas canโ€™t do anything about it!โ€

โ€œGrandpaโ€™s always liked you. Heโ€™ll respect your choice too!โ€

Gideonโ€™s cries filled the night, but Calliope couldnโ€™t hear a thing inside. She was on the bed, engrossed in her video chat with Silas.

โ€œI miss you. I wish I could hug you.โ€

Silas was freshly showered, wrapped in a plush bathrobe, his hair still damp. He looked unkempt but in a ruggedly handsome way that made him more appealing.

โ€œHow can my husband be so hot? Your charm outshines Gideonโ€™s.โ€

Her words made Silasโ€™s eyes darken with intensity. He leaned closer to the camera as if trying to see her more clearly.

โ€œReally? Did you talk much with Gideon today?โ€

โ€œNo. But I did have a long chat with Eamon,โ€ Calliope replied softly. โ€œIโ€™m sorry.โ€

โ€œSorry for what?โ€ Silas furrowed his brow in confusion.

โ€œI know so little about you. Iโ€™ve never understood your world, but Iโ€™ll change that. From now on, Iโ€™ll try to understand and protect you.โ€

Was Silasโ€™s biological father that formidable? No matter what, she would protect Silas. With her around, no one would dare to bully him.

Silas paused, surprised. โ€œYou found out?โ€

โ€œYeah.โ€ Calliope looked at Silas, her heart aching for the little boy he once was, facing challenges alone. How heartbreaking it must have been. He seemed so strong now, but surely, he carried the shadows of his past.

Silas gave a gentle smile, his voice tender. โ€œThatโ€™s all in the past. Thereโ€™s no need to worry.โ€

โ€œBut I still want to hug you, to protect you.โ€

Silas smiled, โ€œWhen I get back, Iโ€™ll let you.โ€

โ€œOkay.โ€ Calliope recounted her conversation with Eamon and the trouble with the car.

โ€œMy wife is amazing,โ€ Silas praised, โ€œYou even know how to fix a car.โ€

โ€œPiece of cake,โ€ Calliope grinned. โ€œI learned from the best.โ€
