Chapter 396

Monty looked like he had just bitten into a lemon. โ€œSure, I may not have showered you with allowances, but you turned out just fine, didnโ€™t you?โ€

โ€œAnd besides, arenโ€™t you loaded now? I heard youโ€™ve got a whole bunch of businesses, that fancy club is yours, isnโ€™t it?โ€

Calliope raised an eyebrow. โ€œAnd you think I thrived on thin air? My club, my businesses, you think they came from you?โ€

Monty was at a loss for words.

โ€œThey gave you life, and thatโ€™s the greatest gift of all! Without our parents, you wouldnโ€™t exist, nor would anything you have!โ€ Valerian chimed in, clearly frustrated, โ€œCalliope, you need to be grateful. Nothing in life is a given. Even if they didnโ€™t raise you, your life is theirs. Are you going to give it back to them?โ€

โ€œDid I ask them to bring me into this world?โ€ Calliope asked with a wry smile.

Valerian spluttered, โ€œThatโ€™s just childish nonsense!โ€

Calliope glanced into the room and made a quick gesture to Zachary.

Zachary seemed to get the message and nodded.

Once Calliope left the room, Monty and Valerian helped Horatio back into his wheelchair and followed her out.

The corridor was quiet, almost eerily so.

Calliope stood to the side, tilting her head as she looked at Monty and his entourage. โ€œSo, did you bring this whole circus of reporters to put on a show? Planning to guilt-trip me into helping you and use public opinion to back me into a corner? Your little scheme is pretty transparent.โ€

Her words hit the nail on the head.

Horatio and the others looked visibly uncomfortable.

They had indeed planned exactly what she accused them of. But they hadnโ€™t expected Calliope to be so sharp, to see through it all. Nor did they expect the reporters to lose interest and just ignore them.

โ€œCalliope, stop being so unreasonable,โ€ Valerian protested, denying everything. โ€œYouโ€™re just projecting your own negativity onto us!โ€

Calliope just clapped her hands. Bravo!

โ€œCallie, just help out the Jewell family,โ€ Monty pleaded, looking at Calliope with big, sad eyes. โ€œYou know how bad things are for us. You donโ€™t even have to do much โ€“ just say a few words, spend some time with us. People will notice.โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t feel like it,โ€ Calliope replied icily.

โ€œYou-โ€ Monty was fuming.

โ€œIf you want my help, itโ€™s simple: meet my previous conditions. Then, his legs, the Jewell family company, everything will be saved,โ€ Calliope said, nodding toward Monty.

โ€œYou-โ€

โ€œHand over the company for me to manage. Give me your position. I wonโ€™t touch anyone elseโ€™s job.โ€ Calliope continued, โ€œLisette can stay too. Oh, and with one phone call, I can have your precious sister back. Really, you donโ€™t want to take this offer?โ€

Valerian seemed tempted by her words.

โ€œHe looked at Monty, โ€œFor Horatio, Lisette, and the company, maybe we should agree.โ€

โ€œCalliope, you really wonโ€™t meddle with anyone else?โ€

โ€œNot at all. Just give me his position,โ€ Calliope said, raising an eyebrow. โ€œSo, what do you think? Itโ€™s a win-win.โ€

โ€œDad, letโ€™s agree!โ€ Horatio chimed in, looking at Monty. โ€œItโ€™s not just for my legs, but for Lisette and the company, we canโ€™t just do nothing!โ€
