Chapter 397

โ€œYou can take some time to think it over,โ€ Calliope said with a grin. โ€œI have to head out now. Once youโ€™ve made up your minds, just give me a call. Oh, but remember, your phone might not work; better use the butlerโ€™s line!โ€

With a casual wave, she turned on her heel, hands shoved deep into her pockets, and strolled away.

Monty was still wavering. The thought of handing over all his power was a tough pill to swallow. Yet, if he didnโ€™t, the company might go under completely, and his eldest son might never recover.

โ€œDad, donโ€™t hesitate,โ€ Horatio urged. โ€œThink of it as an early retirement. Once the companyโ€™s back on its feet, we can figure something out.โ€

โ€œBesides, hanging onto your position wonโ€™t do any good now,โ€ he added. โ€œThe board members have been grumbling about you anyway.โ€

โ€œRight now, the companyโ€™s like a hot potato,โ€ Valerian chimed in. โ€œIf Calliope can turn it around, weโ€™ll reap the benefits. If not, any fallout lands squarely on her shoulders.โ€

Their words hit Monty like a splash of cold water, clearing the fog of indecision.

They were right. At this point, whether the company collapsed or not didnโ€™t make much difference to the Jewell family.

If Calliope wanted to take on this mess, why not let her? Theyโ€™d negotiate to give her the position but keep a larger slice of the pie.

Horatio and Lisette would still be in the company, keeping an eye on things. The old guard at the company didnโ€™t much care for Calliope anyway. Who knows, she might lose interest and give up.

โ€œYes, youโ€™re absolutely right!โ€ Monty sighed with relief. This way, he could avoid any public backlash.

The three of them quickly reached a consensus. Just then, the doors to the lounge burst open, and a crowd of people streamed out.

Reporters, satisfied with their scoop, were already planning their headlines.

Valerian caught one by the arm, frowning. โ€œMax, whatโ€™s going on? Werenโ€™t you supposed to be helping us out?โ€ He was irritated, though it hardly mattered now. Still, heโ€™d hired them for support, and this was the result.

โ€œAh, Mr. Valerian, you didnโ€™t mention Zachary and his crew would be here!โ€ Max replied, slightly breathless with excitement. โ€œYour family dramaโ€™s small potatoes compared to Zacharyโ€™s new project! Today really was a surprise.โ€

โ€œBut how did you know Zachary was around?โ€ Max inquired, still buzzing with energy.

โ€œAnd what about Calliope? We didnโ€™t see her around,โ€ he added, almost as an afterthought.

โ€œSheโ€™s gone,โ€ Horatio replied, not bothering to hide his annoyance. โ€œBut whoโ€™s this Zachary? Is he really that big of a deal?โ€

โ€œOh, absolutely! Heโ€™s the top director in the country!โ€ Max exclaimed, eyes wide with enthusiasm. โ€œHeโ€™s got this incredible talent for turning everything he touches into gold. And now heโ€™s teamed up with the mysterious scriptwriter C! I mean, weโ€™re all dying to know who C isโ€”nobody even knows if C is a man or a woman!โ€

Max could hardly contain his excitement.
