Chapter 433
Gideon and Yvette hadnโt listened to Calliopeโs advice, and eventually, they found themselves at the doorstep of Myers Manor.
Calliope allowed them to be shown in. Seated comfortably on the couch, she looked up at Yvette and Gideon as they entered.
Yvetteโs face was drawn and tired, clearly showing the strain she was under, both physically and emotionally.
โTake a seat,โ Calliope said in a calm, measured tone.
โCould you get them some coffee?โ she instructed one of the staff nearby.
In no time, two steaming cups of coffee were brought over to them.
Calliope herself held a mug of hot coffee, glancing briefly at Yvette and then at Gideon. โSo, why are you here? Itโs not just to apologize, is it?โ
If it were only an apology, they wouldnโt have gone out of their way to come here. Clearly, there was more to it.
โWe did come to apologize,โ Gideon replied. โAunt Calliope, Iโm sorry for what happened yesterday with Yvette. Whatever punishment you think is fair, just say the word. Punishing her or me makes no difference!โ
Gideon continued, โWhatever you decide, weโll comply.โ
Calliope smirked slightly. โSheโs already faced the punishment, and so have you. Your reputations are already in tatters.โ
โYouโฆ youโre still not satisfied, are you? Whatever it takes to make it right, just say it,โ Gideon said, taking a deep breath. โWeโll do whatever you ask.โ
โIโm not planning on doing anything more. If thatโs all you came for, you can leave. Iโm quite busy, you know. Iโve got other matters to attend to.โ
Hearing this, Gideon quickly interjected, โCalliope, Uncle Silas must be furious too, right? Could you please speak to him for me?โ
His eyes were pleading as he looked at Calliope.
โI know I messed up, and Iโm sure if I go to see Uncle Silas, he wonโt forgive me. But maybe if you could say a few words on my behalf? I realize my mistake, and Iโm ready to make amends. Iโm planning to make things right with Yvette and not trouble you anymore!โ
Gideon looked at Calliope with hope in his eyes.
Yvette, however, remained sullen throughout. She couldnโt stand seeing Gideon begging Calliope. Her resentment towards Calliope was palpable.
If it werenโt for Gideonโs insistence on coming to apologize and seeking Calliope and Silasโs forgiveness, she would never have come.
Though she had shot herself in the foot, she still held a grudge against Calliope. It was Calliopeโs fault for being so unreasonable; otherwise, she wouldnโt have been so humiliated.
โWhat you do with your life is none of my concern. And as for Silasโs reaction, well, thatโs entirely up to him. Itโs not my business. Gideon, did you really think I would step in for you?โ
Calliope looked at him incredulously.
โEven if Iโm not one to hold grudges, Iโm certainly not going to help you out.โ
โBut Calliope, weโre begging you here!โ Yvette shouted in frustration.
โJust because youโre asking doesnโt mean I have to oblige,โ Calliope responded with a dry chuckle. โSorry, Iโm not that kind of person.โ
โCallie, Iโm asking you as a favor. Youโre not someone who forgets the past,โ Gideon pleaded, looking at Calliope with expectation.
Calliope shook her head. โInstead of pleading with me, you should be talking to Silas.โ
She shrugged as she kept on, โThe Baker Groupโs businesses are not for me to manage.โ
With that, she stood up. She cast one last glance at Gideon and Yvette and, without another word, turned on her heel and made her way upstairs, leaving them behind.
