Chapter 432
Even if she managed to conceive, sheโd probably have to stay in bed to keep the baby safe. This wasnโt going to be an easy day.
But Calliope wasnโt about to share these thoughts with Gideon or Yvette. That was their business, not hers.
โReally? Well, sheโs got no one to blame but herself.โ Silas showed little concern for Yvetteโs predicament. What really riled him up was how Yvette had wronged his wife.
Calliope had already given Yvette a piece of her mind, and Yvette would have to deal with the consequences of her actions. But Silas had no intention of letting Gideon off easy, either. After all, Gideon had hurt Callie countless times for Yvetteโs sake, and Silas was ready to serve him a slice of karma.
Calliope hadnโt noticed Silasโs silent brooding; her mind was elsewhere.
Back home, the two of them washed up and slipped into bed. No sooner had Calliope settled under the covers than she felt something amissโSilasโs hand was wandering again.
โNo way!โ She grabbed his hand to stop him.
โCome on, babeโฆ really?โ Silas uttered, looking at her with puppy eyes. โI want you!โ
โNope, I said a week off!โ Calliope insisted, her lips twitching. Sure, he was a powerhouse, but even he needed to pace himself. Overdoing it could lead to problems down the road.
โA week? No! How about five days?โ Silas negotiated as he gazed intently at Calliope, trying to free his hand from her grip, but Calliope held firm. The two almost started a scuffle under the covers.
โA week is a week!โ she declared. โYouโve got to learn some self-control, or your bodyโs going to give out sooner or later. Ever heard of sustainable living? Trust me, Iโm a doctor!โ
Silas countered, โYou canโt just throw that around to win every argument. Donโt lie to me!โ
Calliope turned serious. โNo, I swear, Iโm not making this up. Itโs the truth.โ
โReally? But isnโt holding back bad too?โ Silas inquired, giving her that smoldering look that would melt any heart.
Calliopeโs resolve wavered, and she loosened her grip slightly. Seizing the opportunity, he clasped her hand tightly.
โBabeโฆโ he murmured, his voice tinged with a hint of vulnerability, his eyes, which were fixated on her, filled with a depth of emotion that could pull anyone in and quicken the pulse.
Looking at him, Calliope felt her heart soften. Relenting, she helped him out, and Silas lay back, thoroughly satisfied, showering her with compliments that had her blushing to her ears.
Exhausted from the whirlwind of wedding preparations, Calliope drifted off to sleep soon after.
When she woke up the next day, it was almost noon. As she descended the stairs, the maid informed her that Silas had already left for work, letting her sleep in without interruptions.
Calliope nodded while the maid served her some food. As she sat down to eat, her phone buzzed with a call from Gideon. Calliope hesitated for a moment, and then answered.
โHey Callieโuh, Aunt Calliope, are you home?โ
โWhat do you want?โ Calliope replied, furrowing her brow.
โYvette and I wanted to come by and apologize,โ Gideon said. โAbout yesterdayโweโre really sorry. Wrongdoings should be acknowledged, and Yvette knows it was her fault. We want to make it right.โ
โThereโs no need,โ Calliope said coolly. โWhatโs done is done. Yvette needs to focus on her recovery from the miscarriage. Stirring things up wonโt do her any good.โ
