Gideon remained silent, just staring at Silas.

Ignoring Gideon, Silas turned to Calista. “Calista, take a look at this document.”

He guided Calista to his chair, and then stood beside him, watching as she worked through the files.

Satisfied, he nodded. “Not bad, your ideas are pretty impressive.”

Gideon was completely sidelined, standing there in a daze. He felt as if his whole world was collapsing, like he was about to lose everything.

At the hospital, Yvette felt as if the sky was falling too. Calliope’s words echoed in her mind, so she had returned to the hospital for a checkup.

She hadn’t expected the doctor to actually say there was an issue; she might have difficulty getting pregnant again.

She thought that was bad enough, but things were about to get worse. Fleur suddenly appeared and overheard everything the doctor said.

“Doctor, what are you saying? She can’t have children anymore?”

Fleur was nearly hysterical. “Why, why is this happening?”

“There’s a problem with her health. This injury affected her uterus, reducing her chances of conceiving significantly. Even if she does get pregnant, there’s a risk of recurrent miscarriages due to poor quality of her embryos,” the doctor explained truthfully to Fleur.

“Really?” Fleur looked at Yvette in disbelief and slapped her across the face. Then she stormed back to Yvette’s hospital room, her expression livid.

A few minutes later, Yvette returned as well.

“You worthless slut! You damn useless woman! It’s bad enough the baby is gone, but now you can’t even have another one. What’s the point of having you in our family if you can’t even give us a child?”

Fleur went berserk.

“I shouldn’t have let you marry into our family. You’re useless, even more so now! You idiot!”

Yvette sobbed, her eyes red. “Please give me another chance! The doctor said it’s hard to get pregnant, not impossible! There must still be a chance!”

Fleur looked Yvette up and down. “The doctor said what he said. It’s no different from being barren; you’re just wasting our Gideon’s time! You wretch, I should never have let you get close to Gideon!”

Fleur was beside herself with anger, the sight of Yvette only making her more furious. Her head was spinning.

“Fleur, please, give me another chance. I really know I was wrong.”

“Let’s talk when you actually get pregnant!” Fleur turned on her heel and left.

Yvette was left alone in the hospital room, her face etched with bitterness.
