Chapter 441

Horatio and Calliope exchanged a glance, and he was at a loss for explanation. It wasnโ€™t just because she was about to heal his legs. He realized, after some reflection, that he had indeed wronged Calliope. Maybe heโ€™d been too wrapped up in his own anger and had always put Lisette on a pedestal.

But now, with Lisette out of the picture, things seemed a bit clearer. The person in front of him was his real sister, the one who had helped him stand up for the first time.

He had always favored Lisette, perhaps misunderstanding Calliope all along. Sure, Calliope had her own faults, like not voicing out her feelings, but he hadnโ€™t exactly been attentive to her either.

There were misunderstandings all around on both sides. Maybe this was a chance to mend things. They could show her more kindness, let her feel their love. Her stubbornness was perhaps her way of seeking their affection.

She wanted the Jewell familyโ€™s company and everything that came with it, but maybe it was just a matter of indignation, wanting to compete with Lisette.

Valerian, though still thinking about Lisette, couldnโ€™t help but glance at Horatio when he spoke. Then he looked at Calliope, hesitating.

He knew he was at fault. Admitting it was another thing altogether. He liked Lisette, but the person standing there was his sister. Being good to her was only right.

Valerian felt awkward, but after a momentโ€™s hesitation, he said to Calliope, โ€œIโ€™ve wronged you too. I remember you saved me.

โ€œCallie, letโ€™s not hold grudges against each other. Families shouldnโ€™t let a day end with anger. When Lisette comes back, weโ€™ll be a happy family again, okay? Even though youโ€™re married now, weโ€™ll always have a room for you at home.โ€

Calliope gave Valerian a pointed look. โ€œThe storage room, right?โ€

Her words made Valerian pale slightly.

โ€œSmaller than the servants' quarters,โ€ she sneered, chuckling. โ€œBut itโ€™s fine. Iโ€™m the familyโ€™s black sheep, after all!โ€

Horatio quickly chimed in, โ€œYou never said anything before. We thought you liked the smaller room! How about this? Weโ€™ll switch rooms. You can have mine, and Iโ€™ll redecorate it for you.โ€

Calliope looked at Horatio for a long moment before letting out a soft laugh. โ€œSo thatโ€™s an option, huh? I thought I was the only one who had to switch rooms with Lisette, while yours were untouchable!โ€

Her words brought a flush to Horatio and Valerianโ€™s faces.

In the past, when Lisette wanted a room change, their first thought was to give her Calliopeโ€™s room, leaving her with the smallest. It never occurred to them to offer up their own rooms. They seemed to unwittingly assume Calliope was only worthy of a lousy room.

โ€œSorry,โ€ was all they could muster.

Calliope shrugged. โ€œThe Calliope youโ€™re apologizing to doesnโ€™t exist anymore. She canโ€™t hear you.โ€

The two men frowned slightly.

Monty soon returned.

โ€œCallie, hereโ€™s the agreement. Just need your signature.โ€

Calliope glanced at the document, and seeing no issues, she signed her name.

โ€œWhat about the board meeting?โ€
