Chapter 475
Horatio and the gang watched Calliope with a sense of unease, like they were witnessing the calm before a storm.
โCallie,โ Valerian began cautiously, โitโs not that weโre against you going into Lisetteโs room, but you know, itโs her private space. Sheโs not around right now, and it just feels a bitโฆ off to go in without her, donโt you think?โ
โExactly, itโs kind of crossing a line!โ Ulysses chimed in, his eyes narrowing at Calliope. โAre you planning to mess up her room just because sheโs away?โ
Calliope chuckled, a mischievous glint in her eyes. โOh, sure, Iโm here to wreak havoc because sheโs not around. Funny how when Iโm not here, anyone can wander into my room, and she can help herself to whatever she wants from my things. Am I some sort of pushover to you guys?โ
Her words hit like a cold splash of water, leaving everyone speechless.
They exchanged awkward glances until Monty finally spoke up. โWell, considering Lisette has been in Callieโs room before, it seems only fair that Callie can check out Lisetteโs room, too. I doubt Lisette would mind.โ With that, Monty led the way to Lisetteโs room, the others trailing behind. Soon, they were standing at the door.
Monty opened it without hesitation.
The room was a dream in pastel pinks, adorned with all the things Lisette adored: plush toys, some of them rare collectibles that Valerian and the others had gone to great lengths to acquire; among them, a few things that had once belonged to Calliope.
Calliope scanned the room, taking it all in. โI quite liked this doll,โ she mused. โFunny, I remember it used to be mine.โ
โAnd this painting, it was a gift from my grandpa, originally mine too.โ
โThe jewelry in this box, half of it was mine as well,โ she noted, picking up a bracelet.
Ulysses was about to lose his cool, ready to storm over and stop Calliope from touching anything, but Horatio held him back, and Valerian swallowed his objections. After all, they needed Calliopeโs help now, especially since she was the one running the family business.
โCallie, whatever you want, we can buy it for you,โ Monty offered, trying to placate her. โJust name it, and itโs yours.โ
โBut some things,โ she retorted, โcanโt be bought, like this bracelet from Grandpa. I never agreed to give these to Lisette. You guys did. Who gave you the right to give away my things?โ
Calliope tilted her head, her eyes meeting Montyโs. โDonโt I have the right to reclaim whatโs mine?โ
Monty forced a laugh, glancing over at Horatio for support.
Horatio sighed, โAlright, whatever belongs to Callie should go back to her. Callie, take what you want.โ
Valerian and Ulysses stayed silent, reflecting on the truth that these had once been Calliopeโs possessions, taken away not by Lisette herself, but by them, to appease Lisetteโs whims.
The memories stirred a pang of regret, and none of the brothers could find words to argue. Monty, too, remained silent.
