Chapter 75

โ€œSheโ€™s mine! Iโ€™m gonna talk to my uncle about this tomorrow! Calliope is my woman, and sheโ€™ll always be only mine!โ€ Gideon shoved aside a few of his buddies.

โ€œMy uncle wouldnโ€™t even like her. If Iโ€™m not interested, thereโ€™s no way he would be! As for her, sheโ€™s just acting out! Once I have a chat with him, my uncle will send her straight back to my bed!โ€ he boasted.

Laird and the others exchanged a weary glance, watching Gideon with mild disbelief.

It was one of those nights at the club, bustling with energy and filled with familiar faces, including Silas and Calliope.

Word was, Silas was in a particularly good mood tonight. Some thought it was because of Calliope. A few business moguls, eager for Silasโ€™s favor, had complimented Calliope, and in return, Silas had granted them a piece of the action.

Even Wynton, who wasnโ€™t known for his savvy, had managed to please Silas with some flattery about Calliope on Twitter and secured a partnership.

If Silas wasnโ€™t interested in Calliope, he sure had a funny way of showing it. For years, heโ€™d avoided entanglements, not even sparing a glance for women practically throwing themselves at him. Yet Calliope had become his wife. There had to be something special about her.

Sure, maybe she wasnโ€™t Silasโ€™s first love, but why would he turn away a beautiful woman like her?

Calliope didnโ€™t have the most impressive background, but her looks were another story. She could outshine anyone, even in showbiz.

โ€œGideon, give it a rest. You donโ€™t want to cross your uncle,โ€ Laird cautioned. โ€œEveryone knows theyโ€™re married. Whether Silas loves her or not, sheโ€™s Mrs. Myers now.โ€

โ€œHeโ€™s my uncle, after all. And you think heโ€™d get mad at me?โ€ Gideon sneered, โ€œIf anything, heโ€™d take it out on Calliope, the outsider.โ€

Laird fell silent.

Out of nowhere, Archie appeared, landing a solid punch on Gideonโ€™s face.

โ€œWhat the hell?โ€ Gideon staggered back, caught off guard.

Laird and the others were just as baffled, staring at Archie.

โ€œMr. Yoder, what gives? Gideon hasnโ€™t done anything to you,โ€ one of them asked.

Archie, hands in his pockets, shrugged casually. โ€œNothing much. Just canโ€™t stand jerks who bully women.โ€

โ€œWho are you calling a jerk?โ€ Gideon fumed.

โ€œYou,โ€ Archie replied, tapping his finger against Gideonโ€™s forehead. โ€œStay away from Calliope, or youโ€™ll end up with a terrible death.โ€

โ€œI know youโ€ฆโ€ Gideon snorted, gazing at Archie. โ€œYouโ€™re into Calliope too, huh?โ€

He stepped closer. โ€œToo bad for you, you canโ€™t even say it out loud. Youโ€™re just a Yoder, no status, no power, and a stepmother who keeps you down.โ€

Archieโ€™s face remained stoic, his eyes fixed on Gideon.

โ€œNot even brave enough to pursue her, are you? Pathetic!โ€

โ€œSo what? Youโ€™ll never have her in your life,โ€ Archie replied coldly, staring Gideon down.

โ€œSheโ€™s mine!โ€ Gideon shouted, his anger boiling over.
