Chapter 76
Archie didnโt pay any more attention to him; he simply turned around and walked away.
Later, Gideon was picked up by Yvette. He was completely wasted, and as Yvette took him home, he kept mumbling Calliopeโs name under his breath.
โCallie, you wouldnโt fall for my uncle, right?โ
โCallie, Iโm the only one you care about, right?โ
โCallie, are you mad at me?โ
In the room, Gideon gazed at Yvette with a dreamy look in his eyes, mistaking her for someone else.
โCallie, you love me too, donโt you? Youโre only with my uncle to get back at me, right?โ
He leaned closer and kissed Yvette, who didnโt resist much, half-heartedly pushing him awayโฆ
The next morning, when Gideon woke up with a pounding headache, he nearly jumped out of bed upon seeing Yvette lying next to him.
โWhyโฆ why are you here?โ
โGideon, last night youโฆโ Yvette looked down, biting her lip, a teary look on her face.
Gideon furrowed his brows. โIโm sorry, I must have been really drunk last night!โ
He jumped out of bed, and upon closer inspection, realized he wasnโt at his own place, but at Yvetteโs. His head throbbed as he vaguely recalled Yvette picking him up and ending up at her place.
โItโs okay,โ Yvette hid her clenched fists, looking up with a forced smile. โIt was just an accident, donโt worry about it.โ
She then got up.
Gideon watched Yvette as she went to get freshened up and prepare his clothes, looking as if nothing had happened.
โGet up too. Iโll go make some breakfast.โ
Her reaction left Gideon feeling a fleeting sense of guilt, but that guilt quickly vanished.
After getting up, he shared breakfast with Yvette.
Yvette didnโt say much, acting normally, which allowed him to breathe a sigh of relief.
He decided to transfer some money to Yvette.
โYvette, Iโm sorry, last night was my fault. This is to make it up to you.โ
โItโs really fine, Gideon. I chose to be there; itโs not your fault. You donโt need to feel guilty, and Iโm not looking for anything more.โ
Yvette smiled at Gideon. โYou know me. Iโm not the kind of person who does things for money, and I definitely donโt want to make you uncomfortable because of this.โ
In the end, Yvette didnโt take the money. She went into the office and busied herself, acting as usual.
Gideon, however, felt increasingly uneasy.
If Yvette had just taken the money, he wouldnโt feel so guilty. But the more she acted like it was no big deal, the worse he felt.
To make matters worse, he couldnโt stop thinking about Callie. All night, heโd dreamed of herโher laughter, the delicious food sheโd make, her joyful expressions, and even her sad, disappointed looks.
After sitting in his office for a while, Gideon suddenly stood up. He decided it was time to have a talk with his uncle.
He was determined to marry Calliope, and he needed to clear things up with his uncle. He didnโt believe that there was any real emotional connection between them.
Besides, his uncle was his elder, even if there wasnโt much of an age difference. Gideon had always respected him, and he believed that if he made a request, his uncle wouldnโt ignore it.
There was no point in ruining their relationship over a woman.
